Stainless steel U-bolts for NRS LoPro™ Frame Fittings and other frame accessories.
  • Curve of the U-bolt is flattened, or "coined", to reduce impact on boat material. It's shaped to fit our 1 5/8" frame pipe.
  • The 2 1/8" deep Standard size U-bolt is used with LoPro Frame Fittings.
  • We use the longer 2 1/2" deep Oversized U-bolt with our Raft and Cataraft Anchor Systems, Lower Cat Rail Spreader Bars and Cataraft Frame Aluminum Floors. Folks building their own custom frames may also find use for these U-bolts.
  • Each U-bolt comes with two 1/2" zinc-coated nylon-locknuts and two zinc-coated flat washers. Bolt thread is 5/16"-18.

          Comments about NRS Frame U-bolt:

After geeting a used frame and having to make adjustments I snapped off a few u-bolts. So I figured it would be a good idea to have a few spares.

NRS Frame U-bolt by NRS - Oversize

          By Crispie

          from Seattle, WA

          Verified Buyer

          Comments about NRS Frame U-bolt:

I ordered the oversize - 2 5/8" ones to add some side decking to an Alley Cat frame. I was using 3/4" marine ply. I would have liked the U-bolts to be 1/8"~3/16" longer as I had to recess the washers and nuts a little taking away some strength of the ply. (frame tube-1 5/8" + 3/4" ply + washer/nut-3/8"+ = 2 3/4")
Maybe NRS could offer this length too?

                  NO! 1 1/4" nominal i.d. schedule 40 and schedule 80 aluminum pipe is 1.62" o.d. (approximately 1 5/8"). 1 1/2 inch is just too fat for the standard 1 5/8" NRS 'U" bolts.
As an alternative to NRS fittings; the Hollander Mfg Speed-rail/Nu-rail cast pipe fittings can be used, but although speedrail fittings are considerably lighter, these are not as burly as NRS fittings.
I have had my 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" corner Speedrail ("el") fittings precision welded to the front and rear cross bars, and then have added a second allen screw on the side bar for security.
REGARDLESS of what you use, exact torque on bolts and allen screws is required. I use a socket drive 3/16" allen head to tighten the fittings: and I check the torque after an hour or so of rowing along.

2" ID. Shorter ones are for lo-pros, longer ones for attaching seat plates and such.

According to the NRS on line catalog they are 2 1/8" inside length by 2" wide for the standard and 2 5/8" inside length by 2" wide for the oversize.

They fit around the 1-5/8" standard NRS frame tubing and are 2-1/2" tall. The answer is also stated in the online catalog.
