Protect your Sawyer oars from damage with Sawyer Vinyl Tip Protectors. Tough vinyl saves oar blades from chips and cracking by putting a layer of vinyl between the blade and any water hazards.
  • These are compatible with all standard sized curve-tipped Sawyer oars. That includes all items we carry from Sawyer.
  • A hole in the tip provides drainage so water is not trapped against your oar blade.
  • The Tip Protector is sold individually.
  • Fits blades 5 1/2" - 6" wide.

  • Sawyer Vinyl Oar Tip Protector

    Q:

Would you recommend using a glue base for the oar tip protectors?

These oar tip protectors absolutely need some means of physical attachment. They will not stay on your oars by friction alone. I lost two of them within the first hour of a trip on the Middle Fork. After fitting them to your oars, I would inject glue between them and the oar blade using a syringe with filled with glue that has been thinned enough to be pushed through the needle. Glue syringes are available at many woodworking stores.

Glue is not needed for use on Sawyer wood oars. The fit tight like a glove and I've never had one come loose ever. Been using them for over 20 years.

I installed these on my Sawyer Lights about 5 years ago, which are what I row my 15 1/2' low profile Clackacraft drift boat with. I don't glue them on though. I wrap my oars with heavy electrical tape from just below the wrapped rope padding that sits in the oarlocks down to and over these tip protectors. The tape keeps the tip protectors on and protects the finish on the lower half of the oar. The wrap lasts for a season, then I cut it off and rewrap. It takes about a roll for each oar. Between the tape and the tip protectors my oars still look great, good luck with yours.

Yes, I just used a clear silicone and was able to take them off if needed.

Don't need to. The fit is tight so I make sure they are warm and flexible
and stretch them down the blade (sawyer light oars). They never come off.
Be sure to warm them up; if you try to force them on during cold weather,
      they can crack.

I have sawyer ash v- pro's. they are 6 3/4" wide at the tip. does anyone make something for those? These are obviously too small.

Call Sawyer. They are very helpful. They also have "pro tips" that they put on at the factory. I've had blades totally refinished by them. Keep two sets and rotate them when they need refurbishing. Nice to have spares.

Try going to sawyer's website, i think they have two sizes of oar boot. If that doesnt work u could put a kevlar/fiberglass protector on the tip, it would be pretty easy & inexpensive. Good luck

Dan, Sawyer makes one for their wide blades, we just don't stock it. They say it's 6 1/2"W, but I'm sure it'll stretch to fit your V-Pros. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, to order. Looks like they're the same price as the ones we stock.

I put new tips on my sawyer light oars recently. While they were a bit
tight and difficult to slide on, they fit snugly and match the curve of the
oar. These tip covers are commonly used on our local rivers and appear to
      hold up well

The cover split? jeez. I would try a rubber mallet. you need to get the
oar covers 100 % on there. What oars do you have. I had the sawyer lights

These oar blade protectors are for Sawyer Oars. What kind do you have? I bought a set of these 2 years ago and they are still going strong. I would guess you have different oars.

John, It sounds like you're right in that the tip of the oar is too thick for these Protectors.

I have used these with no problem on some old Sawyer blades that I had refinished and they are working fine. Maybe you don't have Sawyer blades. You can call Sawyer and they will help you if you have their blades.

      Hello
I have two sets of oars with Sawyer tip protectors 5.25 wide x1/2 thick. I put them on by heating them in hot water. they slid on fairly easy and tightened up as they cooled. they have held up fine so far.

These oar tip protection sleeves are awesome, greatly protecting my wood oar tips from the everyday river hazards. Dont have to refinish the oar tips annually like I used to have to prior to installing: great product!

Comments about Sawyer Vinyl Oar Tip Protector:

I have a set of Sawyer Smokers that we managed to crack the blades on in the first season due to inexperience. I bought these protectors instead of buying new oars and they are rock solid. Hard to get on the oars at first but fit like a glove. I would recommend these to anyone with Sawyer oars. Don't forget to buy two cause you only get one, they don't come in pairs. Very solid product for the price.

Comments about Sawyer Vinyl Oar Tip Protector:

Do not worry if they appear too small as you can lay the oar down on a work bench or similar surface and just beat them on with a rubber mallet or hammer that has a piece of wood between the hammer head and the oar
