Worth the price

Comments about NRS Oar Stirrups:

My oar hit a rock and popped off the pins in a very sketchy situation near a downed tree. With the stirrup, my oar stayed near the pin and I was able to use the pin as a lever and get a couple of strokes in and got clear of the obstacle.

Oar Stirrups Worked First Time Out

Pros

  • Good Control
  • Simple Design that works

Cons

      Comments about NRS Oar Stirrups:

The package containing Oar Stirrups and Oar Tethers arrived together on the estimated delivery date. While I have not tried the tethers yet, both share a simple, yet effective design. With stirrups installed, my wife and I oared through Class III rapids. One boulder broke the oar lock pin and knocked out the oar, the lock and the stirrups out. The stirrups held the entire system together so we could eddy out and replace the pin.

          Comments about NRS Oar Stirrups:

Fit is fine. Not sure about problems others mentioned, but actually this has as much if not more room to slide in the oar/clip than did my old plastic ones.

              A:

Bob, I'm assuming you have a pin set-up like ours, Item # 77421.01, with a metal washer above and below the PVC bushing that the clip fits over. Sandwich the Oar Stirrup between the existing washers and the washers that came with the stirrups. That way the rubber stirrup material is rotating against the wide washers, minimizing wear. A:

they are used on a pin and clip oarlock. Each goes on one pin. The pin goes
through one hole, then bend the strap and put the pin through the other
hole. There is usually a plastic tube in the center. Use washers on each
              end.

They may be a little shorter but just a little. Worked the same as the plastic ones otherwise, except they don’t crack like the plastic ones.

              Roy,
I don't have any plastic ones to compare. These are much nicer than the
              plastic ones though.

              A:

The NRS Oar stirrups are the same length as the plastic ones. They are 2
inches wide while the plastic is 3 1/2 inches wide. Also the NRS stirrups
are more flexible than the hard plastic.
