The NRS Pins and Clips keep your oar blades set in the best position for a no-miss, powerful stroke. Heavy-duty components give you years of trouble-free performance.
  • Pins and Clips take the worry out of rowing your boat, even in the wildest whitewater.
  • This system is very quiet, making it great for fisherman.
  • The pins are end-threaded heavy-duty 5/8" steel, held in place with a nylon-insert lock nut.
  • A molded rubber safety bumper on top of the pin protects against injury.
  • The clip is rugged powder-coated steel for long-term durability.
  • Replaceable PVC bushings that fit on the pin give a snug, quiet fit for the pin/clip pivot point.
  • The clip is held on the oar shaft with two heavy-duty stainless steel hose clamps for a no-mar attachment.
  • Oar Stirrups, sold separately, are recommended for preventing oars from getting away if the clip pops off the pin in heavy maneuvering.
  • The 9" model has a 3 1/2" PVC bushing that orients the oar above the oar mount at approximately the same height as an open oarlock.
  • The 12" model has 1", 2" and 3 1/2" bushings, allowing you to adjust the oar height.
  • Don't forget your spare oar clip, and it's wise to carry a spare pin assembly in your repair kit.

  • Oar Pins and Clips Sets

    Q:

Can you please tell me what tool you recommend to tighten the lock not on to the bolt with these kits?

I bought a 1" socket but it won't fit over the bolt head with the rubber bumper in place.

    Thanks...

      A:

Jeremy, the bolts are standard 5/8", making the wrench size 15/16" for both the
bolt haead and the the nut (Nylock). Don't use your 1" wrench/socket.
Also though, at your store you might find both 12-point and 6-point sockets. The
6-pointers usually have a slightly smaller overall diameter for a given socket
size so it'll fit into the rubber bumper more easily.
If you have a tool supplier available to you (e.g Snap-on) can even find offset
      box-end wrench that'll fit.
      Hope this info helps.

I didn't have that problem with mine. Not all sockets have the same thickness wall. I would recommend going to the hardware store and buying a thin wall socket, 12 point preferably. That should work just fine. Take the pin with you so you can try it there before buying.

Try a little dish soap and hot water
on the rubber to help slide the socket in or simply grind the socket down.

Jeremy, the bolt head and lock nut are 15/16". That socket should fit in the rubber bumper.

These would definitely work . . . In fact , I have this exact Oar Pins and Clips Set that I only used once . I then decided to go with oar locks instead. If your interested I could sell them to you at a steep discount . They are virtually brand new . Let me know. My name is Richard .

There's no reason why not. What you're really buying in the assembly that is not
easily available is the clip and the rubber knob. Everything else is available
      at most hardware stores.
The pin is simply a 5/8" long bolt (nickel plate), get whatever length you want.
The plastic bushing is simply a length of 3/4" shedule 80 PVC, cut to length to
fit the clip tang and/ stirrup.

      A:

As you mention, the pin shaft is 5/8" in diameter. The 9" pin is designed to fit in our Oar Mounts. The hole in the mount for the pin (or oarlock) is 2" in depth. So, there is 2" from the bottom washer to where the threads start. If that depth doesn't work for you, you can buy the 5/8" bolt length you need,5/8" washers and 5/8" nuts (we use nylock locking nuts) at a local store and just buy the Pin Tops (# 1422.1) and the 3 1/2" long PVC Sleeves (# 1422.2 4) from us.

Comments about Oar Pins and Clips Sets:

I row both oar locks and pins and clips. I am finding that I like the pins and clips better. Similiar to an Oar Right, this system sets you oar up in the proper position. Beginning rowers find this a little strange compared to my oar locks with oar rights. I also like the top of the pin having a big rubber guard. It would be better for somebody that slips while walking around on the boat to fall onto this set-up rather than a point oar lock.

Solid... Just like the ones we used commercially. Strong and predictable in big, technical, and challenging whitewater.

The pins and clips work well. There is a lot less noise than the oar locks I've used in the past. You can't feather the oars but I don't notice a dirrerance.
