I was excited to see an adapter that I could put in my valve and attach a tube to it for better inflation. I was also excited that I wouldn't need someone to hold the hose tube while I pumped with both hands. While the NRS site is very clear that this is "the new" design, I have no idea whether the valve in my boat is "the new" design or "the old" design. The boat instructions say that it is a Summit 2 valve. Because I haven't heard of a Summit 3 valve, I bought it and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, it didn't stay in the valve very well when I attempted to use it. It was far easier to have someone hold the tube while I pumped. It was cheap and worth a shot.

Have you ever stood in the sun inflating a boat with a barrel pump, and it only seems like half the air is going in? The Tomcat Tributary inflates in half the time with half the effort.

Bill, from looking at pictures of the boat online I can't tell what the valve is. Take a look at our valve identification pages - http://www.nrs.com/repair/valves.asp?tn=70 - to see if any of the valves and adapters we carry will work for the valves on your boat. Call us with questions, 800.635.5202.

This is the adapter for current models of Tomcats. Look at this page to confirm valve ID - http://www.nrs.com/repair/summit.asp - You will be able to connect it to your Carlson.

Don't think that the 2 are interchangeable. I know that where the valves
twist into the fitting has different spacing lengths (shaft length) so this
one being a short valve, I don't think that it will twist into the older HR
                      long valves.

Unfortunately, no, the prongs of the Summit 2 cap are shallower than the old HR Long Cap.

I have the Tributary Tomcat and it uses these Summit II adapters (with the blue washer). I checked AIRE's web site and the Tributary Strike also use the Summit II valves so this should work just fine.
