One of the great things about inflatable rafts, catarafts, kayaks and SUP boards is that when not in use they can be deflated, taking up very little storage space. In this video the NRS Repairs crew gives you the tips and techniques to minimize stress on seams and material while they're being folded and tucked away.

    Q:

Just bought this kayak - Based on its width can you tell what length of kayak paddle you would recommend?

Thanks in advance for the assistance

      A:

With the Performance Pack you're probably running whitewater, which means a more aggressive high-angle paddling stroke. Most folks find a 220 cm paddle long enough. If you're particularly tall a 230 might be better. If you can, try out some different lengths before you buy.

What size of paddler can these boats best accomodate?

      Hi Michael,
I bought a two piece 220cm paddle with my maverIK performance package and
feel it's a bit too small for me so I will give it to the girl and get a new
      240cm two piece paddle.
I think NRS's size chart is pretty spot on so it can't hurt to go with that.
They are a great kayak and I use mine mainly in Thailand on the River Kwai.

Michael: Any size. I got this for my daughter and she loves it, however,
I'm 300lbs and it's fine with me on board. It is very well constructed.
Ought to be cause it's pricey as heck!

    Q:

Is the MaverIK I suitable for self support trips?

      A:

How long is the trip? I plan to do a 5 day trip in mine and think that I can take enough gear to support myself for that time. This will be on the River Kwai in North Western Thailand but that will include stopping each night in a Resort or Guesthouse style accommodation.
      Cheers, g.g

Joe, it certainly can be used for self support trips. You'll just need to go backpacker light and the load spread out fore and aft. Some folks who use IKs for self-support trips like tandem IKs for the extra room.

Comments about NRS MaverIK I Performance Package:

I purchased the MaverIK after paddleing the River Kwai (North West Thailand) with a crazy American guy i had met in Ko Chaing (an island over by the Cambodian boarder)who is travelling around with his Rascal.

My sole purpose was to explore the River's Kwai Noi and Yai.

I have started this adventure and this is such the perfect craft to do this in, I am so pleased with my purchase.

I am also very much impressed with the build quality and design of this kayak, well done guys.

Comments about NRS MaverIK I Performance Package:

This is our third MaverIK I and all have been great boats - the other two are still in use. Very sturdy and can withstand much abuse. Not much storage space for overnight trips. Great for whitewater and very stable. I had to add three more D-rings to get a good setup for tying in stuff. Rolls up easy and can fit in the back of your car or truck.
