How To: Maintain the NRS Barrel Pump (3:45)

The NRS 5" Barrel Pump is "built to last, get wet, and get used". It's a workhorse that private boaters and outfitters have come to love. With an output of 1.8 gallons of air per stroke, it makes short work of inflating rafts, catarafts and inflatable kayaks (IKs).

NRS 5" Barrel Pump (1:03)

The NRS 5" Barrel Pump has been a favorite of outfitters and private boaters for years. This rugged, high-volume pump delivers over 2 gallons of air per stroke to quickly inflate rafts, catarafts, inflatable kayaks, SUP boards and that big air mattress you have! The 6.5' hose easily reaches all your valves. Easy to use, built to last.

Comments about NRS 5" Barrel Pump Gasket:

I have had the pump for several years. On my most recent Grand Canyon river trip it failed. When I took it apart to find the cause I found that the gaske had broken. I also found a spare gasket at the bottom of the barrel. Unfortunately the spare gasket broke as I was trying to put it in place. Lesson learned: Make sure to take a spare gasket but store it somewhere other than inside the pump barrel since it experiences almost thwe same amont of environmental exposure and decay as the working gasket.

Comments about NRS 5" Barrel Pump Gasket:

Always carry a spare (or 2) gasket for the 5in Barrel Pump. I share my high capacity barrel pump with our group, so it gets heavily used. With a little sand and heat, the rubber gasket deteriorates. Last season, went thru 3 gaskets, but thats 5 river trips including the GRAND. Note: even your spare gaskets will deteriorate to a certain degree due to heat & ozone.
