Poor quality, but does the job

By Frederico Barracho

from San Luis Obispo, CA

Pros

  • Warm and fits me very well

Cons

  • Started falling apart fast

Best Uses

  • Someone who uses a wetsuit once or twice a year

Comments about NRS Men's Radiant 4/3mm Wetsuit:

After about 5 uses there are 5 cuts in the neoprene and a seam hole that is slowly growing. It has only seen sand beaches. I don't know how the cuts formed, but I believe it's from general handling. Despite the damage, it remains comfortable and warm, implying a good design.

Comments about NRS Men's Radiant 4/3mm Wetsuit:

Really like this suit. Top of the line quality but like everything else a personal choice needs to be made depending on individual needs and LIKES. Surf yes. SOT absolutely yes (maybe the best). Cold water yes. Warm no. Suit not designed to flush. Obvious. SUP ... Nope a Dry Suit wins easily.

      Service and delivery comments:

Both always good. Enjoy talking with the folks at NRS. They really do use the equipment.

      Great wetsuit

      By tomkid

      from Sacramento CA

Comments about NRS Men's Radiant 4/3mm Wetsuit:

I love this wetsuit. I already had a farmer john version and 1.5 mm top but wanted a warmer, full length version for colder, early season windsurfing, as well as whitewater rafting in chilly conditions. This suit kept me completely comfortable in 30 knot winds with temps (water and air) in the 60's. The pile lining really makes a difference. I am 6' and weigh 155 with a lean build. The large size fits me like it was tailor made. If you are on the border between sizes, I would err on going up a size as the fit is snug.

      Service and delivery comments:

Mine was delivered very promptly. We had to wait about six weeks for my wife's as the female version was on back order. However, NRS did a great job of getting her wetsuit to us while we were in Texas for a winter gulf coast windsurfing trip.

What about the wind, how well dose this suit protect from the wind

I just bought the Radiant 4/3 for a November windsurfing camp in Corpus Christi (Bird Island Basin).  The first two days we were there were relatively warm and I used my farmer john (also NRS).  Then a northern front rolled through and with air temps in the high 60's, water temps in the low 60's and wind speeds averaging around 28 mph I was toasty warm!  I'm a believer.  I live in California and sail Sherman Island regularly and this will be great for the early and late season days when my farmer john is just not warm enough.

My body doesn't notice the wind in this suit.

          A:

Tim, neoprene doesn't breathe so wind can't penetrate. However, water that stays on the woven outer fabric of a wetsuit is evaporated by the wind, which pulls heat away from your body. The Radiant helps with this; the raw neoprene on the chest and back sheds water like a duck's back so you won't get evaporative cooling in those areas.

I can't say anything about wind protection.  Have not braved the outdoors yet. I'll most likely wear clothes over my suit. Best, Mike

It's a neoprene wetsuit. It will have decent wind protection. You will be good to paddle or raft in 5 deg Celsius water and if your outside temp is colder than 18 deg Celsius then wear a spray jacket or dry top too to keep you warm.

I use this wetsuit for 50-60. If it gets colder I would put on a thermal rash guard with this suit.

There is a long webbing strip attached to the zipper tab to facilitate opening and closing the zipper. It works great, no problems.
