  • 303 High Tech Fabric Guard

    Q:

For a convertible soft top, I've heard that people brush it on in order to keep over spray to a minimum. Directions on the bottle says that brushing will reduce coverage. What would happen if I diluted the Fabric Guard with water? Say 50/50 dilution. Will it still perform as usual?

I would not recommend diluting it with water. But that is only because I do not know what it's base is. Putting on with the brush might help to extend it but you want to put it on fairly generously so that it will build up and work properly. Also remember to do it outside because it has an unbelievable odor at least the stuff that I used did. My regards,

That wouldn't be recommended. You can still brush it on; it just won't go quite as far. Another solution would be to mask off the areas you want to protect.

Is the product okay to use and effective on a kayak spray skirt?

      Hello
I use 303 on allmost everything that contains rubber. I use it before storing gear and regularly in season, more often on gear used in saltwater. I really recommend it as it prolonges the lifespan on fragile parts, especially on druweargaskets. I havent used it on sprayskirts, but i cant see any reason why it shouldnt work if it is rubber in it.

I used it to re-waterproof my drysuit and it worked fine. On a rubber spray skirt, stretching would break any waterproof film created by the product, so it would be useless to fix a leaky spray skirt. It would probably work for a while on a fabric spray skirt. I have never had much luck revitalizing a rubber spray skirt that had deteriorated to the point where it became permeable.

I never used it on neoprene but why not use McNett Wetsuit & Drysuit Shampoo?
Maybe follow that with 303 Aerospace Protectant.
303 Fabric Guard is intended to be used on fabrics as a reconditioner/water
repellent agent, it is a solvent based substance and mildly flammable. The
solvent content may cause deterioration of neoprene.

It does work. You must use it outside and allow for drying time.it has a strong chemical odor remaining until dry.

I don't see why not. I've never used it on a spray skirt, but it works great on my drytops and drysuit.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard is great for restoring durable waterproof repellency (DWR) on waterproof-breathable materials, and for stain proofing. If your sprayskirt is neoprene, 303 Protectant, Item # 1909 would be a better choice.

I have used this for several years now. It extended the life of my dry tops when I thought it was time to replace them. During an active season, I may have to apply twice to my older dry top, but that is still a lot cheaper than replacing it.

Applied 303 fabric guard to my new Marmot tent's rain fly. Sprayed down well then spread it around with a dry towel Let it dry for 8-12 hrs for best results. First rain after applying the rain beaded up and rolled right off. We'll see how the UV side works in a couple years.
