How To: Inflatable Repair Adhesives Guide (4:16)

When repairing your Hypalon, PVC or urethane inflatable, or your plastic or composite kayak, it's vital that you choose the right adhesive and solvent for the job. Using the wrong materials will result in a poor repair and wasted effort. In this video, Josh from NRS Repairs shares an inflatable repair adhesives guide to help you understand when to use such glues as Clifton Hypalon, Shore, Stabond, Clifton Urethane, Vynabond and G/flex Epoxy. Solvents for repair prep are important too; you'll also learn when you can use toluene, MEK, acetone and alcohol.

How To: Patch a Hypalon Boat (5:09)

Properly patching a Hypalon raft or cataraft isn't difficult, but it does require specific tools, supplies and techniques. In this instructional video, the NRS Repairs Department shows you the materials, adhesives, solvents and skills you need to successfully glue a patch on your inflatable boat. This information applies to Hypalon, Pennel Orca and rubber inflatables. The same techniques can be used for gluing air-holding patches, D-rings and foot cups to your raft or cataraft. The video also includes tips for making temporary field repairs on the water.

I wanted a dark gray and apparently ordered the wrong gray. This was nearly white. I used it any way as the spot I repaired is covered when in use.

Applied indoors with controlled heat and humidity. Used methyl-ethyl-ketone as a cleaner before applying patch. Used 2 part Hypalon glue from another retailer and I pre-stretched my boat fabric using vise grips and a pulley system. I repaired a hole the size of a knife stab, and it holds beautifully.

I am not sure of the exact thickness. but it seems pretty average. I
actually used it to patch my zodiac and it was about the same thickness as
the material used on it. similar to the thickness of the material on my
                  pontoon boat as well.

What is the best patch material for Sevylor PVC inflatable kayaks? Where can I purchase this material?

                  A:

Jarakae, any of the PVC- or urethane-coated materials on this page will bond to your boat - http://www.nrs.com/category/2987/rafting/pvc-pu-parts-materials - If your Sevylor boat is made of a woven fabric that is PVC coated, these will be great. If the boat is just PVC, with no supportive woven fabric, be aware that patches with this material will not stretch along with the boat material Clifton Urethane Adhesive or Vynabond are good adhesives. Another repair material to consider, if the hole or tear isn't large is Tear Aid Part B, Item # 37976.01.
