Bought the splash pants for cool weather kayak fishing. Keep the water out and are breathable. Kayaking for 5 hours yesterday and the pants are very comfortable. Zipper pocket kept my phone dry.

Great for mult-day trip

By Sleestack

About Me Serious paddler

Pros

  • Easy don and doff
  • Quality Material

Cons

  • Needs more room in thighs

Best Uses

  • On te river when not sure about changing weather

Comments about NRS Men's Endurance Splash Pants:

Used on multi0day rafting trip in fall when putting on and removing gear was a must due to changing weather conditions during the day. Only real downside was that these were not very generous in the thighs and seat (for people that actually have some leg musculature)

P.S. Above questions do not appear to be very specific to NRS products for paddling, etc. Could be much better.

Comments about NRS Men's Endurance Splash Pants:

Still not sure if I bought the right size? They are tight to pull on but the waist is large and adjusts fine. I am 6'1" with a 36 waist and weigh 175, so I bought Large. Where I bought them did not show the sizing that NRS has on thier web site, showing the Relaxed for layering. I'm not sure if the XL would be to long as the large are ok as far as Length. So, I am using them and recommend them for waterproof pants, but, they are what they are as far as a fashion statement goes.

    Service and delivery comments:

Bought from an NRS on line retailer. They picked a good one as I am extremely happy with them.

Comments about NRS Men's Endurance Splash Pants:

I'm 5'10 and ordered the Medium, they fit pretty nice but I bet I could have fit into a small, I like my spray gear to be fairly tight. I've only used them maybe four times but the fabric seems solid and since I've had similar parts from NRS before the lasted years I'm expecting great things for the quality. One one packet but it has a great zipper, it's a fairly large pocket and it is in a great location.

        Q:

Trying to differentiate between dry pants and splash pants. Use will be for NE FL winter kayak fishing of inshore creeks and marshes with brief crossings of inter coastal waterway. Most peopke in my area use either waders or rain pants..., but these products seem to be a better option.

I do have knee high neosport boots and NRS. Paddling boots that I use

I have had dry pants previously, however I like the Splash Pants better because the waist is much more comfortable. Primarily I use them for kayaking on inland lakes in cold weather. They do not seal as tight at the angles, but it sounds like that should not be a problem for you with tall boots, which is exactly how I overcome that from being an issue. If you are concerned at all about icey water immersion, then I would suggest a full body dry suit.

They would be fine, light polypropylene underwear under will keep you warm, not for wading, but great splash pants, much cheaper than dry pants. Have fun !

Go with the Endurance Splash Pants. They performed great in The Canyon and I will use them for spring sailing in Oregon instead of rain pants or foul weather gear.

Dry pants vs splash pants?  In my world of whitewater kayaking and rafting, “dry pants” have an ankle seal or an integral attached bootie that keeps you 100% dry when waist deep in water….similar to fishing waders.  “Splash pants” are similar to rain pants and do NOT keep water from entering around ankles if you are wading, but work great when sitting in kayak or raft with waves splashing on you.  In a sit-on-top kayak, the “splash pants “are safer than waders or dry pants in the event you capsize and swim --- you want the water to be able to exit around your ankles when coming up out of the water.

Charles, when you dress for winter boating the first thing to think about is what happens if you go for a swim. No, you don't plan on it, but it can happen. Splash wear does just that, protect you from splash and rain. Dry wear keeps your under layers dry, even if you end up in the water. These pants have Velcro closures so won’t keep water from the bottom if you are standing in a stream or creek for a period of time.  But great for being in the boat.  Dry pants would keep all
the water out, even if standing in the water for a long period of time.

These pants are likely plenty warm enough for winter in FL.  I just used them for a 7-day trip in Idaho.

Carl, use the measurement ranges in the Sizing tab as your guide. The hook-and-loop closures at the ankles keep the pants secure at that point. The legs can be baggy while you get the waist closure dialed in.

I assume you're asking about boating rubber boots. If so I have a pair of
NRS Vaporloft booties which fit nicely inside the Endurance splash pants.
The Velcro ankle closure is adjustable from 16" to 10" circumference ankles.
