Do not like the ear coverings

Comments about NRS Chaos Helmet - Full Cut:

I put this helmet on and instantly hated it. Putting it on felt like my ears were going to tear off, and the covering over my ears didn't feel comfortable even once I got the helmet in place. I also didn't like the head band adjustment - it was difficult to fiddle with, and I didn't feel like I was getting a good fit. Luckily a friend had a similar NRS helmet he didn't like the fit on (but I did), and he was fine with the fit on this one, so we simply switched.

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was great - since I exchanged with a friend, we didn't have to worry about the service/return aspect.

I wore this all day and was comfortable. It was cooler may in Canada and water was cold but I think it would have been fine in warmer weather. I like the ear coverage and the price. Fit well, adjustable.

Comments about NRS Chaos Helmet - Full Cut:

Good helmet, would recommend this for beginners who won't use so much money.
Helmet protect all critical areas around head except face and chin off course. Get a full face for that. Helmet feels solid but for really gritty paddling, go for a sweet or something like that.

Gives me bruises after a full day on river. Painful and bleeding.
I glued a soft strap to chin strap and now it works fine..

          Q:

Not too sure about sizing & adjustability. Is the full cut a one-size-all adjustable to fit, or do they come in sizes and are then adjustable for that particular size?
          Cheers,

            Mate,
These helmets come in small, medium, large, and xl. They run small. Only adjustability is in the back of the helmet to keep it off the back of your neck.
Great helmet. I use them for swiftwater rescue.
            Cheers,

Drew, the Chaos is made in five sizes, see the sizing tab for head circumference measurements. The video on the product page shows the adjustable inner harness.

            A:

            Hi Drew,
The Chaos Full Cut kayak helmet does come in different sizes. The helmet is adjustable with the chin strap and a back-band to give it a snug fit. My head is small; I usually buy ball caps measuring 7 1/8 to 7 3/4, so the medium is ideal for me. However, I purchased a Large to give me extra room to wear cold weather head gear, during the winter months, underneath the helmet.
The down fall to the helmet is the padding itself. I wish NRS would add the same amount of ear padding to the full-cut helmet as they do with the half-cut helmet. Doing so would make the full-cut helmet 75% more comfortable with better protection. I hope this helps.

        • NRS Chaos Helmet - Full Cut

          Q:

Will the fit conform to my head over the course of "break in"? I purchased this helmet and it appears to be the correct size by circumference, but it is tight in certain spots. It is more "circular" than my head, so there are pressure points at front and rear.

            A:

Jim, you're not going to get much "break in." The foam may compress slightly over time, but you'll be uncomfortable the whole time. And we don't recommend shaving off any foam because that lessens the impact protection. If you don't have the XL you can try exchanging for the larger size. Otherwise you should try another helmet model.
