NRS Men's Wetsuit Line (2:47)

NRS paddling wetsuits help you inexpensively extend your boating season into the colder months. All of our wetsuits are made with petroleum-free Terraprene neoprene, and all models feature a titanium laminate layer that reflects heat back to your body to help keep you warmer. This video compares the NRS Little John Wetsuit, the NRS 2.0 Farmer John Wetsuit, the NRS 3.0 Farmer John Wetsuit and the NRS 3.0 Ultra John Wetsuit. It also mentions the NRS Farmer Bill Wetsuit, NRS Grizzly Wetsuit, NRS Wetsuit Jacket and NRS HydroSkin Shirt as additional options. Wetsuits and other neoprene garments insulate your body when wet or dry, making them great for whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, kayak touring, kayak fishing and SUP (stand up paddling) in cool or cold conditions.

    Q:

    6'2", and 175 with 31" waist.
While the specs for size "L" see closest to my build, I'm concerned that my longer torso will end up pulling the crotch of the wetsuit up too tightly making me twigs and berries a bit distressed. Sizing advice?

      A:

      5'8"", 175 pounds, 34" waist,28" leg, size L, I find that the suit fits
fairly well although slightly snug around the middle. The wet suit legs
would probably fit someone with a 30 -31" leg length but the suit maybe
tight if the person has a proportionate trunk length.
It has been my personal experience that wet suit sizes run "small" for a
      given size.

I'm looking for a sizing recommendation. I'm 6' 5", 230#, with a 47" chest, 39" waist, but a long 36" inseam. I saw in another answer where the inseam of the large and XL is 28". What's the inseam on the XXL and 3XL? Thanks.

Dave it's hard to measure inseam on a garment with a gusseted crotch. I measured ~ 30" on both the XXL and 3XL. One customer that answered you got ~ 32" on his XXL. The suits may be a bit short on your longer legs.

Hi Dave,  By measurement the inseam on my XXL is 32" +/-.  I'm 6'0" 225, 48" chest, 40" waist, 30" inseam and it is long on me in the middle and in the legs so a 32" seems about right.  I'm not sure I would go to a larger size than the XXL to avoid bagging in the middle.   John

      A:

      Julie,
This answer responds to a question regarding the "waterproofness" of the
NRS 2.0 farmer john wetsuit. Wetsuits are generally NOT waterproof as they
typically depend on a small layer of water being trapped between the wearer
and the wetsuit. The wetsuit needs to fit tightly enough so that this
layer of water remains trapped (does not circulate) and gets warmed up by
the wearer. I use mine for "shoulder season" paddling. If you want a
waterproof garment I would suggest a drysuit. These keep you dry and
depend on a dry insulation layer between the drysuit and the wearer (like
      fleece or other synthetic underwear).
I like the NRS 2.0 farmer john and used it last weekend in fact. However,
the water temp was lower than I expected and the wind was whistling at
20kts. I was OK, but not toasty. (I couple my farmer john with the NRS
hydroskin long sleeve top). However, it is even colder this weekend so I
will be using my drysuit tomorrow.
I hope this helps and would be happy to respond if you have follow-up
      questions.
      Cheers,
      Robert

No, it isn't waterproof.  It's great as a warming layer, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it, but if you want completely waterproof, you need to look at a drysuit, not a wetsuit.

      Hope this helps.

      A:

No. This is a wetsuit. It traps a small layer of water against your skin that your body heats and helps keep you warm. This shouldn't be used in cold water. If you are going to be paddling in cold water you would want a dry suit which will be completely dry but is much more expensive. Usually between $800 and $1200 dollars.
I have this suit and it's great for the cooler temperature when the water is just warming up or cooling down. When wet this suit can be cold on the wind..

It is a wet suit, which by design is intended to be most functional when
wet. If you wish to be dry, I would recommend that you look at buying a dry
      suit.

    Q:

what is the inseam on a XXL or XL wetsuit? is it the same on a 3.0? lastly, I have a 38 inch inseam, do you have recommendations for best sizing?

      A:

Joe, inseam on the XL and XXL is ~ 28" and is the same on the 3.0 Farmer John. Without your other measurements we can't recommend sizing, but those suits will definitely be short on you.

          I am 6' tall, 215lbs. for starters.
Bought the NRS 2.0 Farmer John Wetsuit and NRS Men's Wetsuit Jacket in XXL too tight in the tummy, had to return.
Now sitting here in a NRS Grizzly Wetsuit farmer john and NRS Grizzly Wetsuit Jacket size G-L with NRS Wetsuit Shoulder Extensions.
I needed the extensions for a comfortable fit from reading reviews I ordered them with the suit.
I am 61 years old and want to use them for Kayaking in cooler water, I think I will be comfortable for 3 hours in this suit, it's not perfect still a tad tight in the tummy but perfection I'm not going to find. If I was any larger I would go with the G-XXL. But it depends on what you want to do if I was going into the water on porpose this would be fine, but my plans are to stay in the boat and have protection if I get dumped.

At 6'4" and 185 pounds, I found this XL suit to be a good fit, except in the seat, which is a little large, but maybe I'm just used to my 3 mil surfing wet suit. I really like the material and it's plenty warm for our northern Gulf waters. If I were in colder water I would have opted for a thicker suit.
