    Q:

It's hard picking out a size just by the size chart. Would someone be kind enough to give me her height, weight, and what size shorts she wears so I can have a better idea? Thanks.

She is 5 foot and a size 6. If the person has a big back side they will need a medium. If they are petite the will need a small.

These need to be tight-fitting as they are designed to keep you warm in cold
waters. I am very small, 5 feet 4 inches in height and weigh 104 lbs so I
got an extra-small. I thought they would be too small but they worked and
      are great!
      I hope that helps!

I wear a size 12 in pants and shorts. I originally ordered size Large and they were a bit tight. I sent them back for XL and they fit better.

    Q:

I am a middle-aged woman racing small sailboats. At the end of the day, my "sitz" bones hurt from bouncing back and forth from one tack to another on a hard Fiberglas seat. Someone suggested getting padded shorts. But, most of the padded shorts I've looked at are for biking, and the padding is all in the crotch. Do you think these pants will help protect my sitz bones?

I wear these shorts while white water rafting, I am very thin and they do provide some good cushioning. The seat on my raft is padded so I can't answer your question with 100% certainty but I think they will increase your comfort while sailing.

      A:

I just bought a couple pairs of these shorts but I use them for scuba diving. They are a very comfortable short for water sports but
give no padding. Have you every thought of wearing a biking short liner under something like this, that way you would have the padding
and the water short. Some bike shorts do have padding further back for those famous bones, check them out. Hope this helps!

These shorts are great and extremely comfortable but i dont believe there is enough padding to protect your sitz bones but at least better protection than regular shorts. Can you pad the seat?

      A:

There is no padding in these shorts. They are merely neoprene shorts that are great for being in the water, so I don't think they would provide any support to your "sitz" bones.

These shorts are the best - but no extra padding really. Any chance a gel
      seat pad would help?

I'm also a sailor and I'd sayŠ.probably not. These shorts provide a measure
of warmth, anti-chafing, and padding. But probably not enough for the level
      of impact you are doing.

      A:

      Unfortunately I don't think so--they're too thin. I wear
them for whitewater kayaking, and our problem is sitting still for a
long time in the same position; we usually have some kind of seat pad
under us. If you move between the same two positions all the time,
might a simple glue-on seat pad in each one work?

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

No. If you own your boat, consider padded seat insert used to outfit
kayaks. They have an a side with peel away adhesive.

They'll help a bit, but the neoprene is only 0.5 mm thick, not a lot of padding. If you can fit in a pair of Men's Rodeo Shorts, Item # 2200, which are made with 2 mm neoprene, you'd have quite a bit more padding.

Are these shorts waterproof? My mother has bladder issues, and is constantly worried about getting an infection. I wanted to buy her something that would protect that part of her body from the chlorine and other germs from the pool water. Thanks Lisa.

No the hydro skin shorts are not waterproof. They are basically a thin wetsuit. Very comfortable and flexible

They are not waterproof when fully submerged in water, but they will repel
water if they just get splashed.

I love these shorts! I have a sit-on-top kayak, and I sit in water every time I go out. These shorts are very comfortable to wear and kept me warm when the weather was a little too chilly for just a swimsuit. I also have the capri length HydroSkin and the Ultra Jane wetsuit - the shorts filled in where those products left off. The shorts have been washed countless times this year and still look (and fit!) like new. I would highly recommend this product. I'd like to tell you some of the negatives I've encountered, but, honestly, there just aren't any!

I use these as a base layer under insulated cross country ski pants for winter bicycling. The sizing runs small. Although warm at first, the trapped moisture becomes a detriment the longer you ride.

I also plan to use these whiled paddling the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. I am sure I will appreciate the protection if I end up in the water, which hovers around 50 degrees even in August.

Used as undergarment during ocean kayaking to keep butt dry- works great. Thin enough to wear shorts/over garments. Construction is .5 mil neoprene so skin will sweat if worn directly against body. Higher waist works when seated in kayak. Well constructed and designed.
