I bought this gasket to try on a Kokatat dry suit as an alternative to Kokatat's own replacement item. It was slightly larger in diameter at the base, but a little overlap past the glue surface ring is not a problem if the bond is good. Trim it or leave it alone as you prefer.

Use Kokatat's instructions for that brand of suit in preference to what comes with the gasket.

One immediate benefit -- I usually have to trim Kokatat neck gaskets down a ring or two to be able to stand them when they're new and very tight. This NRS gasket did not require trimming to be bearable although it remains to be seen if it stretches to the point of looseness during its lifespan. The urethane coated gluing surface on the gasket is on the wrong side for some dry suits, depending on whether the gasket attaches inside or outside of the neck opening. This doesn't really matter, however -- you can glue on either side with the customary prep.

Also, I've seen indications in other people's suits that which side of the gasket faces your neck and which shows to the outside world isn't that critical. The upshot: don't sweat it, you could reverse the gasket on installation if you care to so the urethane ring mates with suit. A carefully installed neck gasket should work either way. Somebody may jump in with objections to this lack of fussiness, and maybe it does matter for really extreme use, but not for me.

The product I am writing about has already failed. I had this brand new neck gasket on my drysuit for barely over a month, before it ripped off from the bottom up, then spiraled around the lower part of the gasket just above the glue line. I have never seen a gasket rip from the bottom up before. For a brand new product I am very let down, and frustrated to once again be repairing my drysuit instead of paddling. This has been my first experience with NRS gaskets, didn't make the best first impression but due to the availability of the small size at my local shop I'm giving it another shot.

If you check the NRS catalog, the neck gaskets have sizing info for the size of product you have. Looks like the medium drytop comes with a medium neck gasket. If you have to spend much time stretching out a new gasket(like days), order the next size up. The base size of the gaskets are the same.

Yes, Kevin, these are the same gaskets that are in the kits. Our repairs folks report that while some tops and suits (because of the size of the opening) can take a bit more work, they've never found one that our gaskets won't fit.

                        How about this:
I used this neck gasket to replace a torn one in a Kokatat goretex dry suite.. The NRS replacement gasket shape is slightly different but it fits and functions just fine. The NRS gasket has wider mid section but should attach in a similar fashion.

                        Kevin,
I'm sure the gaskets in the kits are the same as those sold separately. Latex gaskets are pretty universal between various drysuits and tops. I've used NRS gaskets on my Bomber and Kokatat drysuits and tops. It's usually the neck gaskets that tend to wear out quickest. I have a medium Kokatat and have used a large size gasket as a replacement...less time stretching out the gasket so I don't pass out! My thought is less stretching should provide longer wear. Just try it on before attaching to see how tight it is before any stretching. Gaskets will loosen a bit as you're wearing them and over time loosen up a bit as well, so better to under rather than over-stretch. NRS has a good how-to replace format on their site. Using the proper size form is probably the most important part. Personally, I wouldn't bother getting the kit...just the gasket and the tube of aquaseal. Aquaseal works great to repair small holes in gear and as an adhesive on the boat. Good luck. It can be a messy job.

Not sure what is included in the kit. The neck gaskets I have used have worked on several brands of drytops. I believe they are sized for all brands.. Use the paint can method to fix the gasket and it comes out perfectly. Place the drytop with cleaned up neck gasket on the bottom of the can. Take your new gasket and bring it down the top of the can and have the two pieces overlap around an inch. Then roll the new gasket up the can an inch or so, scuff the gaskets, apply the adhesive and simply roll the new gasket to the 1" overlap and leave on the can to dry overnight

                        Hi Sarah,
I have a Kokatat drysuit Lg size which came with a Lg sz neck gasket so that's what I've used for sizing on my replacement gaskets. I see the NRS Lg is for 15" to 18" circ and I measure 14" circ at largest point(around Adam's apple). I still have to do a moderate amount of stretching on the new neck gasket after I've glued it on the suit. Check the size on your suit since that's probably the neck gasket size it came with. My thought is the less you have to stretch a new gasket...the longer the life of it. You probably would do fine with a medium. If you have a local kayak shop which sells them, I would buy it there. Just slip it on before you buy it. NRS does give good replacement instructions. A good form makes it much easier. Good luck and happy paddling.
