I have the otb black boots like below. They
Work really well for mud runs and tough
Mudders. I suggest you train in the a few
Weeks to get them worked in if you are
Going to run in them, good wet weather
boot though. Sheds water really quick.
      Hope that helps.

A size 7 should fit you just fine, with the same socks you wear in your women's 8. If you're going to add more insulation, like with drysuit socks, you might have to go up a size.

    Q:

I wear a size 10 regular shoe. Same for my hiking boots. I plan on wearing these with a thinner smartwool sock, which is the same as what I wear with my hiking boots.

Any recommendation on what size to buy?

I've had no problem wearing light liners with Coolmax socks, medium weight cotton socks alone, or "waterproof" neoprene socks with these boots in the various uses I've put them through. However, while I normally also wear a 10 regular and do with these boots, I have a somewhat narrow heel but, I don't believe this makes a significant difference as to the comfort level of the boot given the socks I wear. For whatever this is worth to you, good luck.

I am a 8.5 and bought the size 9 for myself and my son. We had to pull the laces up pretty tight but we were glad we had the room because we when with the thicker smart-wool socks and had no discomfort. Based on ten days in a canoe in the back country of Canada I would say that the sizes run pretty true.

I bought the OTB to wear on a canoe trip to the Boundary Water Canoe Area
in Ely, MN. Since we use the wet foot method for launching the canoes I
also bought the NRS Wetsocks. They dry faster than wool and provide a
little more cushion. I wear a size 11 shoe and the size 11 OTB's fit
      nicely.

      I usually wear Men's size 9 1/2, European size 43.
I wore this boot in a U.S size 10 (Eur size 44) with one pair medium to thick wool socks, and it worked very well portaging canoes over muddy and rocky trails.

You should be fine with 10's given the socks you say you will be using. I wear size 11 in pretty much every style of shoe. I bought 11's in the OTB's and they fit fine. I haven't really given them a true test yet, but am taking an 8-day canoe trip in Qu etico PP in early September and will give them a pretty good workout on the portage trails. I'll post a review after my trip.

Joe, please take the size boot/shoe you would wear with a thick hiking sock, then go up one size. That should accommodate your drysuit sock.

    Q:

My foot is 11 1/4 inches long with running shoes at size 12 1/2, regular shoes usually 12. What size Abyss II should I use if it will be worn with a dry suit that has booties built in and a thin sock inside for blisters? Currently the NRS Workboot Wetshoe in 12 is a bit tight in the toes with the same set up. Thanks.

I think you'll want to go up a size to a 13, to make room for the dry suit sock and inner socks. If that's still to bulky, there is a size 14. We have a great exchange system.

Bought Abyss to replace well used Ohdin's. Abbys better suited to rough terrain with heavy pack. Maked a great "out of the canoe, into the water, over the trail and back in the boat" shoe. Getting you feet wet is an essential part of good canoe tripping and the Abyss lets you do that and still have superior ankle support and footbed protection in a light weigh quick drying boot. Easier on and off than the Ohdin and a little better fit, but the Ohdin has a micro razor-siped sole and is better on smooth wet surfaces - read "landing craft and assault boats." Both great boots, well thought out, well executed, good value!

I have used these boots for three 10 day canoe trips in Quetico and Woodland Caribu Provincial Parks.
The boots work well on the portages, except they are not up to the wear and tear. Before the first trip was complete the extra "gussets" at both the heals and toes of the boots started to tear off. I epoxied them back into position for the second and third trips, but they are now beyond repair.
I will not buy another pair. Good in concept, but don't take them down a rocky trail.

Comments about OTB Abyss II Boot - 6 in.:

First off shipping FREE to Juneau, Alaska well that's unheard of as some companies don't consider Alaska even part of the United States. I have an extremely high instep so fit is tough. These boots fit which is something for me to say but I ordered size 45 instead of 44 (an 11 instead of a 10). As far as durability goes we'll find out as I hit the water about once or twice a week during fishing and hunting season with the dry suit on either kayaking, wading and if conditions warrant I'll wear the dry suit with footwear in the power boat.
This isn't the first items we've bought from NRS nor the last. Always been satisfied with the quality and the support

I paddle an open canoe in whitewater. Footwear is very much a matter of personal preference; what feels good to you may not feel good to me. In cooler weather, I wear these boots over hydro socks. This is warm enough. If you have to portage or wade, these shoes work much better for me than booties. In the boat, I like that the water drains out so when you step out of the boat, you don't slosh, slosh. They are not the most comfortable footwear I've ever worn, but I like them for paddling in cooler weather better than anything I've tried.
