How To: Clean and Deodorize Neoprene Wetshoes (2:00)

Commonly heard complaints from boaters are "My wetshoes dry slowly" and "My shoes really stink." The problems are related. Neoprene shoes don't "breathe" so moisture escapes slowly unless you work to eliminate it. And bacteria and other microorganisms in the water and from your feet can generate odors in those moist conditions. This video shows how to clean and dry watershoes to head off odor. And if stinky shoes happen, we show how to eliminate it.

    Q:

I wear a 9.5 mens shoe. Sizing info says I should get the large says, but the "most-liked" negative review says a 9.5 should buy a size medium. Any recommendations?

Also, I'm buying because I think they could work well with the Simms RipRap shoe. Anybody tried this?

I wear a 11.5 men's shoe and was wondering if you think I should go with XL or XXL as I am right between the two sizes?

XL probably would be better. I feel like mine were little bigger than I
expected. The material is stretchy so smaller would be better bet for tight
      fit.

    Q:

I have an old pair of regular NRS neoprene socks (not sandal socks) in size xs. I wear a women's size 7-7.5 but these socks fit well. Should I order the same size in these? Is the sizing different between the 2 versions or has the sizing changed in he last 4-5 years?

Sizing hasn't changed in that time frame. I'm surprised since you wear a women's 7-7.5 that the XS sock fits. I'd expect you'd be wearing the Medium sock. Give us a call and talk to one of our women customer service folks for help on this, 800.635.5202.

    Q:

How do I order these in womens sizes? It shows a size chart but when you go to order these it does not state if it is for men or women.

      A:

They are in men's sizing. Please order one size smaller. For example, if you wear a women's size 9, order a size 8.

I got these socks 2 summers ago for a grand trip. Since then I've been on an additional grand trip and worked as a whitewater raft guide for the summer. So they've gotten a decent amount of use. Love everything about gem except they are falling apart at the toes. Even after the first grand trip I started to see how the material around the toes started to develop small holes. Now the entire tape that is used to keep the sock together is coming apart.

Generally I used them as a sock and used either Keens or Tevas saddles with closed toes. I really did love these socks for river running but I won't buy another pair because I'm so disappointed in how they fell apart.

Also, as an additional data point for those out there. I work with a lot of guides and I've seen this same problem on several other models of NRS wet socks. I'm wondering if they just need to go back to the drawing board and redesign these to handle the toes areas better.

Size runs large.Suggest order one size down if not certain which size to order.

        Comments about NRS Sandal Sock:

Used on the back end of a week long Main Salmon float. Did not need the thermal protection but discovered they helped prevent blisters (wetshoes and silty water were tearing up my toes) and, surprisingly kept the black flies at bay. Last day was cool and raining and they offered fine insulation that morning. There was some concern about them running large but I bought the suggested size (I have a wide foot) and they fit great under my Teva Gnarkosi's.

            Comments about NRS Sandal Sock:

A great find. Very comfortable. But, don't be afraid to order one size smaller because they're cut on the big side and are stretchy. Snug is better otherwise they will fill with and hold water. Ideal for kayaking and if you have a boat with pedals they're very comfortable. Great for launching from a muddy site as in mountain lakes. They may even fit into your water sandals. Five stars for functionality. Four stars for sizing.

                Comments about NRS Sandal Sock:

I use them for flat water kayaking when launching in muddy and rocky areas. They're padded and comfortable enough to use without my water sandals (I have a pedal boat). However, since they're for a size range, they're a bit generous so unless you're at the upper end of the range, get the next size down or they will feel "floppy". Otherwise they're a great comfort accessory.
