The Astral Women's Brewess is a kayaking shoe for all walks of life. It's both a watershoe and a casual shoe. Hop out of your boat and stroll to the pub in style.
  • This is a watershoe that looks as good as it performs.
  • It is so lightweight - less than 8 ounces (214 grams)! This minimalist construction also reduces use of toxic adhesives.
  • The upper is made with Cordura® and Airmesh for durable, breathable performance.
  • G.14™ rubber in the outsole gives you outstanding wet or dry traction.

  • EVA foam in the Balanced Geometry midsole provides cushioning comfort and protection from sticks and stones.
  • The Brewess also has a step-down heel so you can wear it as a slip-on when you're not likely to get chundered.
  • Marking sole.

    Q:

Hi there. I tried on a friend's Brewers and the 9.5 mens size fit well but I'd rather get a women's narrower width. Would that translate best to a women's 11?

      A:

I bought these shoes for my wife and the sizing between the "men's" and
      "women's" shoes is nearly identical.

      A:

Emily, Astral says that a men's size 9.5 will translate to a women's 10.5. Take into account what you had on your feet when you were trying on the 9.5, and what you might want to have on when wearing them "out in the world."

Kate, user reports are that it dries pretty quickly and the Stealth rubber sole is renowned for its traction on wet and dry rock.

    Q:

Since this is listed as a women's shoe, is the sizing the same as other women's shoes? I just wanted to make sure that it is not men's/unisex sizing.

Also, is width narrower than the men's/unisex models of the Astral Brewer?
    Asked on 12/8/2012 by SW

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

The women's shoes are in women's sizing. The width for comparable sized women's shoes seem just a bit narrower than the men's/unisex.

can you show a picture of the holes in the sole and heel?

      A:

Sorry, we don't have any other photos at this time. The enlarged view in the "Larger Images & More Views" link shows the sole holes, along the sides of the sole. The heel opening is generous, for quick emptying of water and debris.

Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Watershoe:

I used this rafting and felt that if I was washed overboard these shoes would stay on my feet. I was able to get off the boat and walk on slippery rocks easily with them and the sturdy toe area kept my toes from being banged up. They drain and dry quickly.
The only problem is that when I went for a walk off trail in the hills the uppers collected the cheet grass seeds(as most shoes will). They worked their way into the inner shoe and were horrible to remove as the uppers have two layers. Most of the seeds I could remove by hand, but will have to use tweezers to get the others out.
I would not hike miles in these shoes without putting a supportive insert into them as they don't have enough arch support for my feet.

Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Watershoe:

These are absolutely the best shoes I have bought in a long time. As a professional whitewater guide, I wear them for day trips, multi-day trips, and private boating adventures. I also wear them to my 'day job' at an elementary school and pretty much everywhere in between. They dry super quick, are very easy to clean, have excellent traction, are very lightweight- plus they never EVER stink! I've been wearing these things all the time (usually without socks because I'm in the water constantly) since I got them several months ago and I have yet to notice any stink. I used to wear my chacos everywhere but these are my new favorite. I wear them canyoneering, swimming/paddling in the river, and hiking around on slickrock- they are the best! They fit true to size and I love that you can wear them as a true sneaker, or you can collapse the heel and wear as slip-ons. Plus they are super cute, ladies. Best shoe for active water people! Highly recommended.

Comments about Astral Women's Brewer Watershoe:

I wanted to like these but the toe portion of the shoe was so big, I didnt understand the fit..They had great tread and a cute style but the top part of the shoe bubbled up because it was so big. I couldnt have gone smaller becasue the length was good. I'm glad I tried them and NRS is great about returning.
