    Q:

Is this the cheapest dry top with gaskets NRS carries?

Yes, at this time it's the cheapest. It's a closeout, so sizing is limited.

    Q:

    Hi,
I was thinking about getting a dry top for over my farmer John wetsuit. I paddle an open canoe, so I will not be wearing a spray skirt. Will a dry top work well with my wetsuit? my main concern is the seal around the waist.

Is there one model verses another that will work best? It looks like most of the dry tops are designed to mate with the spray skirt tunnel, and I do not have a spray skirt

Phil, a dry top can work well in this application. The neck and wrist gaskets will prevent water entry. However, in a swim water will enter at the waist. You can mate the top with dry pants, like the Black Rock DP, Item # 22518.01, for a pretty water-resistant combo. Without the dry pants you might be just as well off with a good splash jacket.

      Hi,
this is a great dry top, and paired with Dry Pants would work great the pant waist acts like a spay skirt as far as you put the inside tunnel inside the pants then the outside of the top over the pants.
that or a Full Dry suite depending on the time of year you are boating.
in the winter the name of the game is to stay as DRY as possible.
Fair weather boating you may find the inside tunnel will ride up.
      Hope this helps.

    Q:

How well will the tunnel system on this work with the "Kokatat Hydrus 3L Tempest Pants with Socks"? Both have a wide Velcro closure and I'm wondering 1) how comfortable it will be to have all that and a spray skirt secured around my mid-section and 2) how dry I can expect to stay should I end up going for a swim. Thanks a bunch!

      A:

The Flux and Tempest Pants should be a comfortable combo. You can expect reasonable dryness with the pairing; however, a dry pant/dry top combo is never as foolproof-dry as a drysuit in a swim.

      Hello!
My NRS dry top is great. The dry tunnel spray deck combo is perfectly comfortable and water tight.
I jumped in to rescue my friend in his upturned kayak wearing the top with spray deck and dry pants. I ended up with a soaked midriff, probably down to my dry pants not being tucked in and leaky dry pants. My upper body stayed dry. I've never found a dry top-dry pants combo that keep you dry when swimming in whitewater.

    Q:

I am 6'0", 205, broad shoulders, 46 chest, 37" sleeves, and 17.5" neck. I bought an extra large. Neck is so tight I don't know if I can get used to it. Stretched it over a bowl and tried it again. Seems way too tight. Would an xxl have a larger neck gasket? The xl is ok, but arms and shoulders are borderline. Thanks.

Our XL dry wear garments have a Large neck gasket. The XXL sizes have an XL gasket. See - http://www.nrsweb.com/repair/gasket_sizing.asp?tn=209 - for the sizing. Since your XL is borderline in some respects, the XXL will probably work better for you.

    Q:

    Hi Folks,

I have a variety of NRS gear for upper body and it's all sized "large" fitting well. Will the Flux Drytop continue to fit me similarly, or should I size up. I am 5'10", 160lbs, 40" chest, 33" waist without upper body gear on.

Also, should this top seal well against your John's Suit? Seems the lower body is ok (hydo-skin under johns suit) in cold water, but the upper body is really ICY wearing a hydo-silk with zip front hydo-skin. Think if I could keep the upper body dryer the colder water would be tolerable and to me 60 degree water is cold.

Will a balaclava, I should here that "over" the neck seal?

    Thanks again,

    Bill

      A:

Your measurements are right in the Large size. The double pull waist will seal pretty well but not be totally waterproof in a long swim. Definitely wear the neck gasket directly against your skin.

First, these sizes run small. I'm in the middle of the sizing charts but a Large was small in the shoulders and chest while the neck gasket was choking tight. I got the XL, though I've never worn anything XL in my life, and it fits great. I tried it this weekend in 60 degree air temps (water temps can be really cold in Colorado) with a moderate breeze and a Wave Lite top underneath and was afraid I'd be drenched with sweat, but instead was totally comfortable. Wow! I might rate it a 5, but can't say how it will hold up over time. Initial quality is good.

This is a decent dry top but it gets an average rating because I don't stay 100% dry in the play park. I thought I initially received a faulty product so I sent it back and NRS replaced it for free but the second dry top has the same problem. Basically water slowly leaks in somewhere at the forearms. When not completely submerged the dry top performs well. I spent 6 days kayaking the Middle Fork of the Salmon at flood stage this year and stayed dry the whole time. The fabric is nice and durable but the fit seems like it could be better, a little too much material for me, I'm a medium at 5'-10" and 160lbs.

Bought the drytop for this spring and as of right now I have no complaints. It seems like a very durable product and I think as long as it's treated well it could last awhile. You do get a little wet rolling/playing in hols etc but I expected that, and I think you would with most drytops.

I use the flux anytime I go on a river now no matter the weather. It was a little tight at the gaskets at first but I put a bottle that was a little bit bigger than the gasket to widen them out a little and it fits perfect now. Plenty of mobility, breathes well and most importantly dry! One of the better buys I have had in awhile and I hope it lasts me a long time.
