    Q:

I purchased one of these jackets approx 2 years ago and it has faded dramatically and it is also fraying on either side of the zipper. I do not think this should be normal as I have a friend (who suggested that I buy this jacket) who has owned his for at least a year longer than mine and we both give the jackets the same kind of use (2-3x / wk in a pool). His has retaind the black coler and no fraying. Any info you can give would be appreciated.

The chlorine in the pool could be accelerating the deterioration of the jacket

No issues and during the summer months I am on the Arkansas river in CO everyday. You may have a bad jacket that came off the production line; NRS stands behind their merchandise so send it back and get a new one

      Hi Jim,
Yes, I own one of these Hydroskin jackets. Mine is 2 or 3 years old and is
in mint condition (no fading or fraying). However, I have only used mine on
early spring river runs. I love it but it doesn't get near as much use as
      yours. Hope this helps.

Jim....I have had this jacket for about 2 years
And have had no fraying or fading but I haven't washed the jacket. I probably only used it
Only 2 dozen times. Maybe its detergent you use. Too harsh on the fabric. I hope you don't use
Bleach...Kind of strange your bud has no problems with the same use. Perhaps, you just
Got a lemon. Good luck. A pricey product that I would expect to wear better and longer.

      Hi Jim,
For what it's worth, I've had about a year of use 2-3x/week. No fraying.
No fading. I've used it in the sun more than just a few times.
Perhaps the pool chlorine is to blame for the fading. (Can't say I'd care
      much about a little fading.)

I just purchased this jacket a few weeks ago and have not had time to put in significant use. But I do not think that the fraying you're talking about is normal. I trust NRS and their products and have never had an issue with anything they make.

Jim, the high chlorine content of pool water is hard on neoprene garments. Please send the jacket back to us for warranty evaluation: NRS Returns, 2009 South Main St., Moscow, ID 83843.

I swim with snorkel in the sea for about 1 hr at least 5 times per month with a little bit od diving with no problems. Because of the time swimming I have to use a shirt under the jacket to avoid nipple soreness.

If you order your regular size this jacket will fit very very tight. I usually wear a medium and the XL fits the way I want-alittle loose.

My Farmer John is a pretty snug fit, with the intent of keeping most water out and trapping the water that gets in so it warms from body heat. My Hydroskin shirt on bare skin is also a pretty snug fit. I have not tried using them together, but if I did, I believe that the Hydroskin would have to go under the Farmer John for my existing fits. If you have a slightly looser fit on the Hydroskin, it could be worn either way.

Most likely under. It's a snug fit. I routinely wear a Hydroskin Shirt under my wetsuit when diving. I used my Hydroskin Jacket over a Hydrosilk Shirt on chilly mornings on a river trip.

      A:

I couldn't, as I found the sizing for the hydroskin jacket to be small,
mostly the lower sleeves which are quite snug, so I have either worn it
with my sleeveless ( tank-top style) hydroskin top or simply worn it in
place of a long sleeve shirt, as one can adjust the zipper for
ventilation and it isn't very thick. They would have done well to have
sleeve zippers like the regular wetsuit jackets.

I don't know as I've never tried it. I don't see why you couldn't do that. Are you wanting to do that for extra warmth? Where I live (Houston, Tx), it would probably be too hot. I have worn the jacket over a hydro silk shirt.. Mostly due to modesty reasons so I can unzip the jacket when it get warm and not show off my less than beautiful bare chest. Hope this helps.

I wear a jacket over my long sleeve hydro-skin shirt. I think the jacket may be a size larger than the shirt. I double up when the water is really cold, or a swim might be a long one. Just like layering when I go for a hike in the mountains.

I wouldn't, unless you're going the Antartic! Love the Hydroskin, but they

Sheds water quickly. Easy to put on and take off with the front zipper,
Size runs small, especially from arm to arm, so I have experienced some chafing, but this top is more comfortable than a thicker neoprene top

Worked well in heavy rain and 15-20 kt winds in open waters
