I have several of these tops, both long and short sleeve. I have found that
they run small, even considering they are supposed to be skin tight. I
would consider myself a "large" but take XL in all NRS tops and jackets.
Love the product, but you may want to consider size "small", not XS. Good
luck, I'm sure she'll like it!

Jimmy, many folks use our HydroSkin for snorkeling. The thickness needed for warmth depends on water temperature and the wearer's cold tolerance. Since she's an XS there are multiple choices there in our closeout items. We've redone the HydroSkin line this year. We also now have these garments in 1.0 and 1.5 mm neoprene thicknesses.

Nya, I have the hydroskin long pants and jacket.  I live in the Pacific Northwest and do deep wading while photographing sea creatures.  The water can be quite chilly here, along with wind and rain.  The hydroskin keeps me warm and it's very comfortable.  The sizes run a bit tight; I wear a size 10 in clothing but ordered the XL in everything and am very happy with all of it.

70 - 80 degree water is pretty warm so you shouldn't need much.

    Hi. Just two questions:
How do you care for this item, i.e. machine wash, what kind of soap, etc?

And then, what is the recommended fit. Snug all over, slightly fitted, etc?
Asked on 3/24/2013 by Tracy from United States

    7 answers

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Tracy, HydroSkin should be handwashed and air dried. Use a mild soap and the very best one is McNett Wetsuit & Drysuit Shampoo, Item # 2249.

HydroSkin is a thin wetsuit garment. To work most efficiently a wetsuit should fit snug to the body to minimize water entry and exchange, which takes heat away from you.

I hand wash it after every use with clear fresh water and neoprene "Sink the
Stink" type product which basically kills any bacteria growth in the
neoprene. I do not put it in the washing machine. I always wear a
Hydrosilk shirt under it so it's never next to my skin. I still use the
first one I every bought probably about 8 years ago and use it very often.
If it does get a bit soiled, I spot treat it with a mild soap. Great shirt
for added warmth. Fit I like best is snug all over. If you are normally
let's say a medium in a shirt, I'd go with a medium in the hydroskin as
      well.

I don't put it in the washing machine. I'm pretty sure it says 'no machine washing' on the label.
I rinse it and let it dry after use and every once in a while I dunk it in a MiraZyme bath, although I've never noticed any odor..
Mine is very snug on me, but I have a fairly athletic upper body.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Here are my answers to the two questions, but I'm sure there are other takes on both!
I machine wash neoprene pants and top on gentle with powdered Tide. I just noticed that NRS sells a neoprene "shampoo" that I would like to try. I've had the pants about two years, and they show few signs of wear. (Neoprene gets really smelly fast.)
Like a rash guard, neoprene should fit snugly because that's how it keeps you warm, but it should still be comfortable. If you plan on swimming in it, it will stretch quite a bit when really wet. If it is loose, it won't keep you warm as effectively, and it will just hang when wet.

      Answered on 4/3/2013 by Anonymous
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Typically I just rinse it out and hang it to dry. You can also hand wash or
machine wash with a mild liquid detergent and hang to dry.
If you are using it in a pool you definitely want it to fit snuggly because
it stretches when wet. If you are using it to kayak you want it to be
comfortable. I bought it snug fitting, but still comfortable. Keep in mind
that it has rash guard under the arms which helps with mobility.

I use this product for whitewater rafting in the fall and winter. Generally I layer polypro underneath my hydroskins, which do a great job of wicking water. It's just about as good as a wetsuit and makes using the restroom a lot easier. You can layer a fleece or a drytop on it easily. It's basically true to size, but if you're between sizes then I'd definitely recommend a size larger. I'm a size medium and I'm 5'7" and 140lbs, and that was the perfect fit — any bigger and you might want to go up a size.

I bought this for a fall Grand Canyon trip. I agree with another reviewer. The sizes run small. I am also a size 16. The XXL fit, but was not very comfortable. And I didn't wear it as much as I should have. I also bought a splash jacket and had to get a mens as the women's sizes are too small. Men's sizes do not translate to women sizes. Please consider designing a womens size. We are out there and when spending [$] for a shirt, I would like it to fit.
