    Q:

What is it like to sleep on this pad on a warm night? Does it get sweaty?

Steve, the outer surface is PVC (vinyl) coated. Sleeping with bare skin against it wouldn't give any place for the sweat to go. You'll be more comfortable with some absorbent material between you and the pad. I slept on my El Grande during a 23 day July Grand Canyon trip that was hot as Hades. Wasn't wearing much clothing, so always had a sheet or open sleeping bag underneath. Only thing I regret is waiting so long to get my Paco! Huge fan.

I have never slept on it in sweaty conditions or above 70 degrees. I live in Utah and desert nights are cool. You could put a big towel on it as a sheet to make it soft ? These pads make for a great camp sleeping experience. My whole family loves them. Highly recommended.

Our last GC trip in May of '09 was a very hot trip. My wife and I put a fitted cotton sheet on our Paco pads and usually slept without any cover till early in the morning when we'd pull our light weight fleece blanket over us. We have the 3'' thick Paco pads and they are the hit.

No problem sleeping. Not too hot, I think it would depend on covers over
      the top.

      Howdy!
This Paco is the jam! Won't make you any more
Sweaty than the smaller ones covered in
The same Material!:) If you're really worried about being that hot bring one of those cool sheets to throw on there anyways. Might as well be sleeping on a sweet grande while you're all sweating it out in the ditch together! Had mine for Years...love it!

I slept on this pad for 2 weeks straight in the grand canyon in August. I laid the pad on a cot and then a sleeping bag on the pad. I did not not notice it getting sweaty, perhaps because of the sleeping bag. I also sat on this pad while I rowed my raft during the day in the sun and it did not stand out to me as being too sweaty, but I was getting splashed a lot from rapids and dumping water on my head to cool down. It did amaze me how durable it is and it was quite comfortable to sleep on with a sleeping bag on top.

if you have clothing on it should not be sweaty. I’ve only used mine with a sleeping bag on top of it
and it was very comfortable, Sweet dreams.

The pad is very comfortable to sleep on, but we did make covers for them as
your skin will stick to them if sweaty!

Not at all its a bit firm and heavy not for backpacking. But I highly recommend it for sleeping in a car, a friends house, and car camping. You'll be in a bag most likely so the sweat would be caused by your bag if anything

    Q:

what is the warranty on these Paco Pads? Are the valves replaceable?

      A:

Rick, Jack's Plastic Welding doesn't list a specific warranty for their pads but they do stand behind the product and will take care of any manufacturing or material issues. The valves aren't easily replaceable but can be repaired. They are a tough, quality product.

Jack is pretty proud of his product and stands by it. I have never had
a warranty issue with his stuff though. I over see a rental fleet with
several of his dry bags and paco pads I did have the corners wear out on
my personal pad and he sent me free patches for the corners. He has
updated the design and now has corner reinforcement. All things PVC are
"replaceable" however these valves are pretty durable and easy to clean.
It's hard to go wrong withe the Paco pad.

I do not know if the valves are replaceable. I have not had any problem
with mine in 6 yrs. I would think to go straight to the manufacturer.

I use the Paco Pad for rafting and raft fishing. The comfort cannot be found in any other product and the pad is easy to pack on a raft with a super tough skin, needing no extra cover. While it is premium priced, a good night's sleep comes near the top of my rafting. The self inflating feature certainly shortens camp set up time.

This pad wasn't as comfortable as I was expecting with 3 inches of foam, also if you try to over inflate there are no baffles to hold air spread throughout the pad so the air shifts away from your weight. My advise, buy this for its durability if you are looking for comfort look elsewhere.

Comments about El Grande Paco Sleeping Pad:

I've owned all kinds of sleeping pads and this is the best. I slept on it for 18 days straight running the Grand Canyon. Best sleep I've ever had camping. We sat on it during the day, ran rapids on it at camp and slept on it at night. After the trip it showed little signs of wear. That was ten years ago and the pad still work beautifully.

Comments about El Grande Paco Sleeping Pad:

The Paco pad fits well on a board behind the seat that people sit on. It is real comfortable to lay or sit on while going down the river. Works well on multi-day trips, only have to deflate once. Best to have a boat that is wide enough it does not hang over edge. Using the pad as a seat by day and sleeping pad at night is a good thing. It is sturdy and river worthy. It does inflate well.

The biggest disappointment for the price it was not as comfortable to sleep on as stated by others, not much better than a thermal rest on the ground. Not overly friendly to deflate and is bulky. Would not want to be rolling it up every day.
