Q:I have a trip groover system for the Grand Canyon. I would just like the lid of the Rest Stop Commode to put on one of the many 5 gallon buckets I already have. I'd rather not buy another bucket. Can I just get the toilet seat (it's only for day hike emergencies when the groover is not set up)? How compatible is it on a normal 5 gallon bucket? What's so special about the one they sell with it, besides that the lid screws on? Can it just fit on top of a normal bucket? I only want this for the very rare backup it may be used for. thanksAsked on 6/11/2015 by bighorn from kernville, ca
A:The seat is just a fairly dense foam seat and should work on any plastic 5 gallon bucket. The bucket is just a regular 5 gallon plastic bucket with one of the "The Gamma Seal Lid" attached. These lids are available on the web and have an outer ring that snaps onto the lip of any standard plastic bucket, the screw on top then screws into this outer ring. They are supposedly air tight and leakproof.
Hope that helps,

A:The bucket with the Commode is a standard 5-gallon size. The bucket is topped with a Gamma Seal Lid. You can probably find one at a local hardware store. If not, a web search will show many online sources. The foam seat is currently $19.95; we don't stock it but can order if for you, 800.635.5202. You can use the seat on a bucket without the Gamma Seal lid, but that narrow lip may shorten the life of the seat.Answered on 6/12/2015 by Clyde from NRS
