    Q:

I have an older small 13X8X9 cooler with a sipper around 3 sides and hook & loop on the back side, do you have a replacement liner for that model?

      A:

Bob, we no longer have that model liner. I had the same problem. I went to a fabric store and got self-adhesive hook-and-loop strips, glued them in and the new liners work like a charm. Cheap fix.

I have two of these soft coolers. They stay cold longer than one would think. You could keep milk cold in one for 24 hours with enough ice. I'd say a 1/2 gallon milk container full of ice would still be cold the next day even if you let the cooler sit in a car the whole time (at least here in Michigan).

      A:

I've kept milk on the trail for up to four days. I use regular ice packs
and then buy the individual sized plastic bottles and freeze them. The
milk thaws slowly, but stays very cold. By using individual sized
containers, the pasteurization remains intact for the unopened bottles.
Lately, I've been moving to the UHT milk -- it tastes a bit weird, but is
fine for coffee in the morning. Throw something over the cooler so it is
      out of the sun.
      Good Luck!

I can't say exactly how long a gallon of milk will stay cold, but it's keep
other food like lunch meat and eggs good for three day weekend trips. I
just use the gel filled freezer packs you might ship seafood with. I put
one on each side and one in the top pocket. Then like I said... it's good
      for days.

    Q:

    Hi,

I am looking for a small cooler for storing water bottles and sandwiches. I am going on vacation soon.

Does your cooler fold so that it doesn't take up much space in a luggage?

    Thanks

      Paresh,
When empty they collapse down to the size of a pair of dress slacks folded. These are soft sided so very easy to compress. They will hold a lot of capacity when extended to full size. I've never had one full. It will easily hold several sandwiches, 6-8 bottles of water and ice or freezer packs.

      A:

Absolutely! I've taken it on tips stuffed into other luggage. Compresses
down to next to nothing and is ready to go when you arrive. It's really not
"designed" to fold up, but it smooshes down just fine. Great little
soft-sided cooler for a 6-pack with ice or lunch and drinks. Carried this
to work with veggie juices and an ice pack for years.

Yes, Paresh. The cooler can fold and withstand being in a compacted position for a length of time.

    Q:

I have an older model cooler with a liner that has a zipper on three sides and hook-and-loop on the fourth side. It was ideal for kayak camping, but the clear plastic liners failed easily and often. The last time I tried to order a replacement, they were out of stock and I more or less gave up on it, but still have it. From the descriptions of the new ones, I presume you no longer sell a liner that will work on my cooler. Is that correct?

Lewis, I had the same issue with my personal Dura Soft cooler. I went to the fabric/craft shop and bought some self adhesive hook-and-loop strips. Cleaned the inside surface of the cooler with rubbing alcohol, stuck on the h&l and added the new liner. Works great and the new liners are bomber.

    Q:

Is this, or are any, of your soft sided coolers water proof? That is, do they close up tight so I can use them on the raft without river water seeping in through the whitewater?
Asked on 10/14/2013 by Bonnie from Boise, Id

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Bonnie, the urethane liners on the Dura Soft Coolers have sealed seams so you won't get any water entering from the bottom. The lip of the lid wraps over the lower cooler walls to offer splash protection but the zipper itself isn't waterproof.

This cooler makes a great secondary cooler on multi-day river trips, and as a lunch/beverage cooler on day trips. We had our first for several years before the zipper failed, but NRS replaced it with a brand new model that has some improvements over our original. The D rings allow the cooler to be easily rigged on the side rails of our raft as a secondary cooler to access during the day. On the last days of a multi-day trip, this cooler will fit inside of our main cooler, allowing us to concentrate our remaining ice and items needing cooled into a cooler within a cooler.

A cool trick: silver air-bubble duct insulation can be cut to fit the floor and sides of this cooler between the inner liner and outer insulating layer, as well as in the mesh pocket on the inside of the lid. This adds significantly to the cooler's R value and will help it hold ice much longer.

I needed a lightweight, soft cooler for a recent extended flying/camping trip. This cooler is ok and better most than other brands I looked into. But on the fourth day I was out of ice and was buying a bag a day after that. I also purchased another cooler that was better insulated and out performed the NRS product. Keep looking, there is a better soft sided cooler out there.

Comments about NRS Dura Soft Coolers - with Infinity Liner (5qt-44qt):

We used the cooler for lunch storage during our 7 day MF Salmon river trip. Even though we did not expect the cooler to function as a dry box I was pleased (and amazed) to find that it did not take on water after a flip in rubber rapid the last day. We will mainly use this for day paddle raft trips but think we will find many additional uses.
