The Navisafe Navi Light 360 - a unique design combining waterproof 360 degree visibility, super bright LED light and a double magnetic system, in a compact shape that fits easily in your pocket.
  • Navi Lights are the first battery operated LED navigation light to receive US Coast Guard two nautical miles approval as a navigation light, establishing it as an essential item of safety equipment for seafarers.
  • Navi Light, with its 16 Ultrabright LEDs, gives ultra strong light 360 degrees as a steady light or as an emergency flasher.
  • Waterproof to 65' and it floats! No more worries about rain or dropping your light in the water.
  • The Navi Light 360 has five operating modes to give you just the illumination you need: All 16 LEDs constantly on, all 16 blinking, 10 on, 6 on or 4 on.
  • The double magnetic system lets you attach the light anywhere: on your clothes, on your boat, inside a tent, to your car - wherever you need light.
  • You can also attach the separate magnetic base to a boat deck or other surface with a screw or bolt. The light body securely clicks onto the base, but can be removed for transport or storage.
  • With all 16 LEDs on, the Navi Light continues to shine for 13-15 hours on steady light and 80-85 hours on emergency blink.
  • Uses three AAA batteries, not included.
  • Unconditional 12 month warranty.

    Q:

Is the magnetic backing plate strong enough to work through a composite deck or hatch cover?

      A:

In my opinion, this would be dictated by the thickness of your hatch cover. My wife and I have used our light on the hulls of our plastic SOT kayaks and the magnet is MORE than strong enough to hold the light securely.
I hope this is of some help.

Yes it is but since I do long races I made a plate out of an old cutting
board and set two bike brake pads on it and then bolted the mag. plate to
it. I secure it with a lanyard and then if I or someone hits it, it won't
fall of the boat. It is real easy to make and fast to set up. During the day
I take the lights off but leave the plate hooked on the boat that way I'm

Yes, I use it thru the composite deck of my kayak and it still feels strong. It's fine with water washing over the deck but I suspect it might come off in surf. You could use duct tape for extra security.

yes, on my Epic 18x, although I have found that the light in front of you is quite bright. It doesn't take a big knee bump to knock it loose from below, so keep the light tied to your bungees.
I tie the cord to the back side of my shoulder strap of my pfd and use the magnet to afix the light to the top of my cap. This not only gets the light high up and out of my eyes, it is also a beacon for a group and makes me look saintly, which is a paradigm shift.

It certainly is. I place the base under the deck on both my sea kayak (kevlar) and my racer (carbon) and once the light unit is placed above and the magnets are aligned it is extremely secure. These are very powerful magnets. They grip just as well through a Valley hatch cover.
They work so well I wouldn't consider affixing/screwing the base to my boats. A lanyard is included with the light for added security. ( I haven't needed it).

I have three kayaks, different results, though all will work. Swift Adirondack (Trylon) holds well through the deck or hatch cover. Cover is trylon or hard thin plastic. Perception Carolina 14 surprisingly holds very well through the deck. This is roto molded, I believe, that heavy duty plastic. Also has heavy hatch lids which magnets work but not a ton of hold. Kayak 3 is a P&H Cetus and magnets hold well through the deck (Trylon) and the hatch lids hold as well. I would have thought the Trylon kayak decks which are thinner than the rotomold would have provided better hold but the thicker rotomold holds like it's not there.
In all cases the kayaks can be shaken on my racks and the lights do not move.
      Hope this helps.

Maybe, but the bond will not be as strong. I tried that a few times, and it is not very solid. I gave up and mounted the magnetic plates to the kayak. The plates only require one small wood screw (included) to attach to the kayak, and the hole would be very small and easy to patch if you ever decided to remove the mounting plates.

No, Just drill thru hatch cover and seal with silicone, you can get longer
stainless steel screw and nuts at Ace hardware. I have his light mounted
on the bow of my Necky 17 and have the pole mounted near the stern with the
white light. Set up works excellent. Paul

Yes, but be sure to secure the light with other means as well, a lanyard for example, in case it is struck by another object.

I think you would be pleasantly shocked at how strong the magnets are.  The only concern I would have is if your deck or hatch cover is significantly curved.  But, on a flat surface the Navisafe is not going anywhere.

I have used this through the hatch cover on the bow of my Hobie, as well as through the stern decking. No problems.

The (neodymium) magnets are pretty strong but it depends on the thickness of the
      deck or hatch cover.
Why not epoxy the backing plate or otherwise attach it (foam adhesive tape, S/S
or brass screws, etc.) to the deck and simply put the light in place on the
attached backing plate. The light has magnets in it and so does the backing
plate. Make sure you align the assembly first so you epoxy the backing plate in
the correct orientation; the pod and plate magnetically attach to each other in
alignment. If you want the backing plate adhesive to be removable use a few dabs
of silicone adhesive, that usually peels off okay.
Buy a couple of magnets about the same size from K J Magnetics and try it out
      first..

Very good design. Like others said, you can use the magnet to put this on top your kayaking hat and it lights up the highest point on your boat -- the top of your head, 360 degrees. Nice variety of settings. Great if you are out in busy water at night for motor boats to see you from a distance.

I have taken the Navi light out about 3 or 4 times, kayaking in SF Bay. I was very excited about this light, and even got an inquisitive comment from a world famous kayaker who noticed it on my PFD!

Turns out, after an afternoon of practicing entry / re-entry's, and T-rescues and paddle float re-entries, I found some water in the light. The seal seemed tight, and this was the 2nd Navi I ordered from NRS. (The first one had a few LED lights that weren't working).

Overall, I am upset that this isn't working as well as it promises. If it was indeed waterproof, I would be happy. I wish Navi would import their Navi Sport light, but they don't.

If I ever needed to get rescued (God forbid!) I need to make sure 100% that this light is reliable.....unfortunately, it is not!

Comments about Navisafe Navi Light 360 2NM:

Light is very bright and seems to be made well. Can't speak for longevity at this point, but it does float upright as indicated (though not with backing plate etc - just upper light).

Only complaints I have are the programming of light modes; it would be nice if they desinged a way to turn on and off without cycling though all modes. Often I just want to turn it on and off within one mode, but I have to go though each setting to turn off.

Another item I wish they had addressed in design stage is the orientation of magnets; if unit is mounted via straps, magnets force fwd/aft light modes to point port/stbd. Maybe I just got a unit with magnet polarities backwards. In either case ths should be something they fix as it negates functionality of those modes if they don't point in proper direction during use.

As a 'want' for future, I'd get more functionality out of it if unit had an 'all red' mode for night vision if I wanted to use it in a wheelhouse or tent etc.

Good light, but I'm likley to only use it as an all around light mounted though hood/hat or magneted to surface.

Magnetic mount works good inside hat for kayaking. Use Railblaza deck mount with pole for oc4, oc6 outrigger canoes. Bright setting is super bright. Dim setting is still bright and batteries last a very long time. Great light.
