    Q:

I have this on my raft and every time I try and pull a can out, the holder comes with it. Any suggestions on how to keep the holder (black part) in it's holder (silver part)? :) Thanks!

      Tara,
Is the drink holder fully seated in the slot? If you push it into the
slot until it bottoms out it will snap in place and stay put.

I don't have that problem with my cup holder. But I would think putting a zip tie (or lightweight wire) around the two parts (the black inner piece and the silver outer piece) would do the trick. I.e., you are making a loop around the two in the vertical plane, so that the black piece cannot slip up and out of the slot. Or, if you never want to take it apart, get a tube of marine construction adhesive, coat the black plastic part and slide into place. But that option is very permanent. You'll never get them apart again.

I ran a piece of nylon cord through the back strap and then tied it to my frame right next to the silver mount. If you tie it tight enough, it should help increase the resistance. Good luck!

Tara, if you leave the Drink Holder on your frame, a plastic zip tie will do the trick. If you take it off regularly, you can paint a thin coat of Aquaseal, Item # 35001.01, on either the holder tab or the bracket to increase friction, or slide a thin piece of wood or plastic between the holder and bracket to lock it more firmly in place. If you're still having issues, give us a call, 800.635.5202.

It holds an unopened drink in case you flip.

Velcro in the top secures the lid when there is nothing in it, bottom is
just mesh to allow water to drain out.

The Drink Holder was originally designed to fit on the NRS Saddle Bag Cooler, Item #28861. You'll see that there is a patch of hook-and-loop just above its location there to grab and hold the lid. The h-and-l on the bottom can be used to anchor it to a patch on the lid of that cooler or somewhere else.

This has been a great solution for the problem of where to set a beverage when both hands are needed on the oars. It mounts to the rowing frame with a u-bolt attachment, so it won't work for paddle-only boat trips. The weakest link is the plastic connector on the back of the fabric drink holder that allows it to slide in and out of the aluminum bracket. My first one broke on its maiden voyage, but NRS promptly replaced it after a quick email describing the problem, and the second one has made it through several multi-day trips this summer. Be careful when mounting the bracket not to overtighten the u-bolts on your frame, as it can cause the aluminum mount to twist a bit. This in turn stresses the plastic attachment, leading to its premature demise.

Nice gimmick but not something I am going to keep on my raft frame. I purchased two of the holders to keep drinks cold while on the river. I had safety concerns with the holders when I mounted them on my raft frame - the mounting hardware was obtrusive and to me represented a potential impact/laceration hazard for crew. I tried mitigating the hazard by placing the holders in obscure positions, then had problems keeping the insulated holders in the mounting brackets - they kept popping out. For the money, not worth the gain. For Safety, I took them off my raft. Nice idea.

Comments about NRS U-Bolt Drink Holder:

My only knock on this product is that when I have had an over sized water bottle or more often a tall boy beer it gets stuck to the holder and everything detaches from the frame. Then you are trying hold the oars and put it all back. I have adapted by just drinking regular sized cans of beers a small hardship but fixes the problem.
