    Q:

I'm finding it really hard to open/close the seal. Do you have any specific lube suggestions? Or better yet, links to an appropriate product?

Kaare, the video on the product page clearly shows the recommended opening process. Closing involves pressing the sides together, starting from one end. Using 303 Protectant, Item # 38751.01, to lubricate the seal will really help with both opening and closing the bag.

I've never found it hard to close the bag. I did make a slight modification to mine and this may make a difference in how the bag opens and closes. I found that the plastic insert was insufficient to hold the bag open. My previous deck bag had a rigid plastic insert between layers of the fabric, which I cut out and inserted into the new bag. This holds it open and makes access much more convenient, and may allow it to close easier. Opening has just been a matter of getting used to the procedure. If you follow the manufactures instructions the bag does open.

I lubricate the seal with 3M Aerospace 303 product regularly.  Using the technique shown in the video, I am able to both open and seal the bag without too much trouble, even while wearing gloves.

I kept the bag for over 8 months. Found that the seal was difficult also
and ended up returning to NRS in addition,it really didn't fit my deck., I
was pleased that they refunded; sorry no help with that.

Make sure your hands are parallel with the opening. Use your whole hand on each side of the opening to create an "S" like the photo. That's to open. To close pinch the rubberized grooves together and work it down the line. It's a bit tough, but once you get the hang of it it works great.

I hear your complaint. I did not use it for the longest time because it was
difficult. In fact I used a float bag that had a mesh storage area as a
deck bag for the longest time.
Then one day this summer I just began to use the new Watershed Deck Bag.
I just decided to NOT Seal it, but leave it open to be able to easily reach
my snacks, bottled waters and extra gloves. I like it because it has good
attachments to the kayak deck and a place for my pump.
I am now using it all the time and I do not seal it unless I am expecting
      rough water.
I hope that helps...Zoom in to the attached photo and you will see this
deck bag in use on my front deck

Comments about Watershed Aleutian Deck Bag - Closeout:

Great bag, it came used with a kayak I purchased.
Washed it off and it looks brand new. Had been thinking about a deck bag, but did not like any others out there. I did purchase a North Water, retruned it, seemed to skimpy as were Sea to Summit and Seattle Sports. All are inferior if you ask me to this deck bag. I will use it for on deck storage. No more having a Seal Line bag under my spray skirt.

Comments about Watershed Aleutian Deck Bag:

The bag seems very well made and watertight. For me it was difficult to open and especially difficult to close as the ziplock seams did not line up very well. Maybe mine was defective, not sure, I sent it back.

Comments about Watershed Aleutian Deck Bag:

I bought this deck bag to protect my SLR camera while kayaking. I only took the camera out in fairly calm seas. The bag performed well. The S sealed enclosure worked slick. There is enough room in the bag for the camera and other assorted items: plenty of room with room to spare.

I found the pump attachment to be too tight for quick removal so I didn't use it. I also had to reach fairly far to get to the water bottle stored on the side. I'm glad it was there, but found I switched off between storing the bottle there and on my spray skirt.

Comments about Watershed Aleutian Deck Bag - Closeout:

Deep and flat, hard to find items in it. Should have something to hold it upright some so it would be easier to reach in. Has great clips for attaching on the kayak and the bilge pump holder keeps the pump out of the way so the paddle doesn't hit it.
