Kayaking Alone, by Mike Barenti, is the story of his 900-mile solo kayak journey, from the headwaters of Idaho's Salmon River to the mouth of the mighty Columbia River.

• Mike set out in late May to trace the route of salmon smolts that make the trek to the sea via the Salmon, Snake and Columbia Rivers.
• He travelled by whitewater and sea kayak, meeting people along the way and chronicling the ecology, history, politics and controversy surrounding the Pacific salmon.
