Comments about Rogue River Guide Book:

You can download the free float guide from the Rogue River permit site or buy this one. I've tried both and will never do the Rogue again without this guide. Aside from being waterproof, it has detailed information about camping spots as well as rapids (though personally I don't think the rapid descriptions are entirely necessary since the river changes at different flows). I also think some of the ratings aren't totally accurate, but I still think overall the guide is definitely worth it. Has lots of historical information about the canyon which is fun to know about.

Comments about Rogue River Guide Book:

Many guidebooks have adopted a certain, consistent downriver mileage convention, and this book should have adopted a more easily used one. While there are many sections of the Rogue to discuss, I found it very confusing to accomplish early trip planning and orientation to the area, based solely on this guide. It all fell together once I compared it to a competing guide, and talked to some locals. That's the only dig, everything else is stellar.

Comments about Rogue River Guide Book:

This is an excellent guidebook and covers many topic areas well, especially if it is your first visit. Some rapid descriptions are geared more toward novice boaters, so you may look for "the big move moment", then realize you've past it. Great hike descriptions and camp assessments.
