Will the Yakima Rail Grab mounts attach to the Yakima Roof Tracks?
Asked on 11/24/2014 by CB from United States

    2 answers

It would take just the right set of claws & I'm not sure how securely it
would fasten. I don't have direct experience trying to pull this one off
but the rail grab really needs to wrap around a rail securely, and from the
look of most of the claws you might be hard pressed to find one that fits
into the narrow channel of the Yak Track and even harder pressed to get it
to clamp well enough to one sidewall of the track.

The Rail Grab Towers work with raised rails. They won't attach to these Roof Tracks.

I have a 2005 Tacoma pickup, it's not a full four door cab, but it has second small doors behind the main doors. It's an extended cab. It has mounting tracks on top of the cab roof. Will your rack work on my truck

It should work, Gordy. However, more information is needed. Please run your vehicle through the Yakima Fit Guide, linked there in the Product Info section of the Roof Tracks page. If you still have questions call us, 800.635.5202, or email service@nrs.com.

what kind of bolts/screws does it use to mount on metal

Heard back from Yakima, they say: "We use special hardware called Plus Nuts. They have a steel sleeve that expands in the hole when tightened. Then the actual bolts themselves, that get inserted into the sleeves, are Stainless Steel."

How are tracks attached to the roof? Does it require drilling hole? Please provide installation instructions.
Asked on 2/19/2013 by Second set of Yakima racks from Texas

    2 answers

Yes you have to drill holes in your roof to install Yak Tracks. Mine are installed on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited hard top so it was easy. Just be sure to silicone the screw holes during install to prevent any leaking. The finished product has a very low profile by the way and doesn't look bad at all whether you have your rack on or off.

I am curious who wants to know.
I followed Yakima instructions which involve holes in the roof.
How difficult and/or involved that is depends upon the roof and what is on
      the inside.
