Comments about Astral Women's Abba PFD:

I love this PFD because it is so comfortable you don't even know you are wearing it (for a PFD). It is slightly heavier than most and maybe a bit warmer than some, and it doesn't have the useful, but bulky sown-on pockets, but this completely molds to your body, has enough room under the arms, doesn't rub against your neck and is comfortable for shorter torsos. It isn't overly bulky anywhere. It probably isn't the most comfortable for high back kayaks. I use mine for canoeing and sea kayak with low back band. You can comfortably lay back on the kayak. I am new to kayaking but have been canoeing for many years. This is by far the most comfortable PFD I've had. I have broad shoulders, a little short waisted and have a 38 C chest. The Med/Large fits great. My husband tried mine and loved it too, so he bought the men's Norge version. He says he can't even tell it's on. So no, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, I miss having a couple larger pockets sown onto the front (it does have two big pockets but they are flat). But I ranked comfort above more pockets in this case. Plus it is really cute!

I am a tall, large chested female- 5'10, 42 inch chest. I was so hoping this would be the PFD that worked for me because I love front zip Pfd's. But it was not to be. Even with the shoulder straps lengthened it rode up even with small arm movements. Also a bit of a chest squisher. Probably be great for shorter women with small chests, and seemed very well made.

How many handwarmer pockets does this jacket actually have? I know the specs say there are two pockets, but I see one on the front of the life jacket (which obviously is not for handwarming) and wonder if there is only one handwarmer pocket?

The hand warmers are inside the sides part of jacket. So they aren't really pockets. That being said I love this jacket and the hand warmers work where the are.

it’s not too short, I can wear it in my kayak comfortably (without interfering w/my seat back), but I bought it for guiding. Plus the adjustable shoulder straps help customize the fit.

I am a little over 5'4" and the pfd (small/medium) hits me at the natural waste.
I used it on a 21 day grand canyon trip last year plus some shorter trips, and it was great.
Size small/medium measures 19" down the back from the top of the shoulder to the waist.

The back is ~ 1 1/2" in thickness. If that's too thick for you take a look at the Zoya, Item # 40029.01, with it's mesh lower back and the Linda, # 40086.02, which has a 1/2" thick foam back.

I actually found it very bulky and ended up ordering the Clearwater Mesh Back instead. I really wanted the Astral bc I liked the fact that it was designed for a woman and I liked the hand warmers. But in the end, it wasn’t comfortable. The Clearwater Mesh Back worked great in an inflatable kayak. Would imagine it would work fine with a hard shell kayak. Good luck.

BWH, as with most recreational life jackets, the flotation panels of all three sizes are the same; the difference in sizes is the length of the adjustment straps. The sizing measurements are chest size. If your measurement falls at the top of one of the size ranges you can go up a size. You'll probably have some extra strap length when the jacket is properly adjusted.

Hi, I have the same measurements and the small fit me ok. I wasn't a huge fan of how bulky it was in the back so I returned mine. If you're looking for something with a lot of back protection it should be fine but if you're used to jackets with 15ish lbs of float then the 17 might feel bulky to you too. Hope this helps!

                Hi there!
I'm only 5' 4" but am a small 34 b. This pfd in the normal adult size is a
little wider than I am around but fits perfectly when its tightened up or
I'm wearing a few layers like a fleece under a spray top. The angle of the
flotation padding would allow for a little more boobage and is surprisingly
flattering for a life-jacket made for a lady figure!
