I love this PFD so much. It's fully the best I've ever worn. Nice and low profile and just crazy comfortable. Especially great for us ladies that are larger busted.

Comments about Astral Women's Layla PFD:

After 20 years, and lots of use in saltwater, freshwater, Grand Canyon mud, and various other insults, my beloved Lotus Lola PFD finally needed replacing. I tried on a bunch of different PFDs, didn't like any of them, finally bought one and wore it on several long trips, but never really liked it that much, so I kept searching. I eventually found a tip in some review or other, saying women, especially curvy women, seem to really like the Astral Layla, so I searched it out. I really like the color of the purple and teal version, but I am a believer in having as bright a PFD as possible, so I bought the red one. I LOVE it. The fit is awesome, it is really light and comfortable, shapes to my body, does not ride up, adjusts wonderfully in every dimension, and the red color is really nice. I am so happy to have finally found a replacement for my beloved Lola that I can love and maybe wear for the next 20 years (when I will be 81). I sold the other PFD that I had bought to someone that seemed very happy with it.

Comments about Astral Women's Layla PFD:

I've worn the Lola vest for 15 years rafting, kayaking & SUP. I loved everything about it. I'm tall with broad shoulders, 34D. This vest fits all the curves of my body w/o creating restrictions or squishing out the goods. Lash tab is in a good spot for your knife. The only down side is the pocket w/in the pocket doesn't have a drain hole? This seems like a design oversight, even just an eyelet hole would have done the job well. I bent over to fill a water bottle & got a shot of river water in there too- gross.

        Pocket too small

Comments about Astral Women's Layla PFD:

Fit seems fine but single front pocket is too small for the needs of a serious sea kayak peddler e.g., to carry marine radio, first aid, etc.

Terrible fit. Feels super bulky with too much material above nipple line. I ordered a small and still couldn't cinch it tight enough...send it back.

            Q:

Hi. There are a lot of questions about large chested women. I am 36DD but am a very small person. 5'2" and 130. I wear a size 4 pant, but I wear a large tshirt. What size would you recommend?

This is from my daughter for whom I bought the vest....
I would say to get the smaller size, I am 5'3" and about 150, and I also
have a larger chest 36D. I got the larger size and it fits me, but just
barely. You'd probably be better of getting the smaller size.
              Good luck.

I am also 36DD. I tried both the large and the small/medium. The small/medium fits much better, so that's what I recommend. It's an awesome product. I'm in ID now for a week before putting in on the Middle Fork May 23 to use it first time!

Life jackets are sized by chest circumference, so take that measurement. And something to be aware of is that for this jacket, like most, the only difference in the sizes is the length of the adjustment straps. Take a look at this article - http://www.nrs.com/learn/life-jacket-fiction-fact.asp

We bought an XL because the straps can tighthen around your waist veraus buying a smaller size and feeling confined. Plus you have more room to wear layers in colder conditions. It's a nice PFD and very comfortable.

              I'm 5'10'' 168lb and also 36DD. I got the small/medium Astral Layla PFD.
It is a very good size for me. I have had several PFDs before this one
that were HORRIBLE for the large chested; this might be the most
comfortable PFD I have ever worn (since puberty anyway).

I’ve had the astral greenjacket and found it wasn’t very comfy for me. I also have D cups . This is a very comfy PFD and though the pocket is also in front, it doesn’t add extra bulk. Lots of adjustment points and I like the side entry. Super comfy and doesn’t get caught on stuff for self-rescue. I highly recommend it. I haven’t yet worked with it as a rescue vest. I miss those features of my greenjacket.

            Q:

Is this a pull over or a side entry? How does the accessory belt work with it for rescue? I have the astral green jacket but it just doesn't fit right and I have a major struggle with it being a pull over, due to the zipper on my OS drysuit. This seems like it's the best of both worlds, and still designed for humans with breasts.

The Layla is a side zip, you can see the bold blue zipper to the left of the front pocket in the photo. And yes, a quick-release rescue belt can be added to the Layla. Sweet.
