  • NRS SUP Board D-Ring PVC Patch

    Q:

Hey guys, sorry for possibly a slightly dumb question. I want to grab some d-ring patches to add to my inflatable SUP and use with my NRS 1 inch cam straps. Should I be grabbing the Small 2.25" on a side, 1" D-ring? I am guessing yes! Cheers.

Yes those are the sizes you want. I added 8 of them to my big earl. I just used the repair kit glue and it was perfect. Now I can strap down lots of gear and do multidays. Enjoy!

Mark, the three smaller patch sizes all use a 1" D-ring. The 2.25" one should handle the loads of things your'd strap on a SUP board. Gluing it to PVC I recommend Clifton Urethane Adhesive, Item # 38700.01.

      That is what I used
Go around the perimeter and make an x
You can put a fair amount of gear
I have been using a small waterproof bag to carry small things
I use carabiners to attach all my stuff
      Enjoy

The patch does not come with any adhesive. I used clifton urethane 1 part adhesive. Followed application instructions from NRS.

As far as I know, it does not. I haven't opened the ones I bought and when
I bought it, I also bought the recommended glue and surface treatment.

The adhesive is a separate purchase. We recommend Clifton Urethane Adhesive, Item # 38700.01 or Stabond, # 38704.01.

No, it does not, although NRS sups are pvc, the consumer could be glueing this d ring to a number of different surfaces requiring different glues. I added 8 of these and used the NRS isup repair kit glue, worked perfectly, use just a thin layer on each surface.

This is an excellent D ring with a large patch that has sewn in backing to the ring. I used this for applications on our sea kayaks and our gigantic dock fenders for a large yacht. I'm pretty sure we purchased the adhesive separately.

      No
You need to pick up some MEK to clean with and then the glue.

  • NRS SUP Board D-Ring PVC Patch

    Q:

Are these only for the inflatable SUP's or could I use these on the hard boards - there is no tie-downs on my board to pull it up on the dock and secure it.
    Thanks

I used it in a fiberglass kayak. Just be sure to get compatible adhesive.

Yes, Steph, you can certainly use these patches on other surfaces. Not knowing what material is used in your board, I can't be sure of the adhesive to recommend. However, G/flex Epoxy, Item # 50201.01, will certainly bond to the D-ring patch, and to fiberglass and many plastics. It's not a contact cement so you'll need to apply weight on the patch while it cures. Give us a call, 800.635.5202 or email service@nrs.com with info on your board and we will try to help you find the best adhesive.

The answer to your question depends on the surface you're gluing to. The
recommended glues are for PVC. You could try an adhesive designed for your
board surface as long as it will adhere to the patch as well. Personally,
I would never use a ring like this for security or to support the entire
weight of the board while lifting it.
