Drysuit and Drytop Cleaning/Storage Instructions

New drysuit gaskets may not be comfortable initially but will stretch over time. We recommend stretching new gaskets around something slightly larger than the gasket opening overnight. Trimming the gaskets is not recommended and may cause gasket failure.

Cleaning and Storage

  1. Rinse garment with fresh water after each use. This is especially important if you use sunscreen. The oils in sunscreens can break down gaskets.
  2. Dry completely, inside and out, before storage.
NOTE: Do not dry garments in a clothes dryer.
  3. The outer fabric in these garments is coated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment. Minimize washing with cleaners/detergent, as they shorten the life of the DWR treatment. Most liquid detergents contain emulsifiers that damage DWR. For best results use a cleaner like ReviveX Synthetic Fabric Cleaner that is specially formulated to clean today's technical fabrics.
NOTE: Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
  4. Store drysuits and drytops with the zippers all the way open, including the relief zippers. If left closed for long periods, the zipper's sealing elements can take on a "compression set" making them less effective.
  5. Periodically treat your paddling gear with 303 Protectant. 303 Protectant can be used on fabric, gaskets, and neoprene. Be sure to only lightly mist fabric. McNett Seal Saver is another excellent protective for latex gaskets and socks; Regular application of Seal Saver preserves and maintains latex and neoprene seals while inhibiting oxidation and deterioration.
NOTE: Do not store drysuits and drytops in excessively hot or humid locations, or in direct sun light. Do not store garments where gasoline or gas appliances are stored (this includes the trunk of your car) as the fumes can break down the gaskets.
  6. Use Fabric Guard, ReviveX Water Repellent or one of the Nikwax products to restore water and stain repellency when water no longer beads on the fabric. Before applying these products, first wash the garments with ReviveX Synthetic Fabric Cleaner to remove contaminants that will interfere with restoring the DWR.
  7. Use Zip Tech and Zip Care on metal, nylon, and plastic zippers, to remove dust, sand, salt deposits, and lubricate the zipper teeth.
