Comments about NRS Barrito Roof Rack Pads:
I was a bit worried they'd be too slippery (they are covered with a disk-towel-like cloth instead of just having the rubbery neoprene core exposed) but with good strapping the movement wasn't excessive. The boat moves around a little more than saddles, but the trade-off is worth it for the other benefits, and there was no worry that the boat would come off the roof (provided good straps and technique are used - I ran one of the straps through the side carry handles on the kayak for extra security). Note the Velcro is very strong so the pads aren't going to come off the bars when there is no boat smashing them down. The pads effectively prevent any denting or scratching of the cross bars or kayak even when tightly strapped. I like these better than saddles for our tandem sit-on-top kayak (has raised "rails" for hauling upside down like a canoe) because saddles don't fit large kayaks very well and the Barritos are more aerodynamic than saddles when the boat is not on the car, and the cross bars are easier to store without having to take saddles off.
