A good, rugged seat. I put it on my 12' cataraft for the rowing seat (the boat is set up for fly fishing with a folding seat on the front). I needed the seat to swivel as I best enter the boat from the rear. Unfortunately, my swivel and the new seat had different dimensions for bolt holes. Here's how I set it up. I bought a 3/8" aluminum plate (a strong & non-corrosive grade) on the Internet. I then bought a sheet of 1/8" plexiglass from Home Depot. I cut the plexiglass and aluminum plate to size and used the plexiglass to mark bolt holes on the swivel and then on the aluminum plate. I drilled holes in the plexiglass and used them to mark holes on the aluminum plate. After drilling the aluminum plate, assemply was easy and everything bolted together without problems. Oh, I replaced all bolts, nuts, etc. with stainless steel ones from a hardware store.

I just returned from a WY fishing trip down the Snake R and others. The seat worked great. Much stronger and more comfortable than my old one.

I own 2 Sotar rafts, and I own this seat in both the high-back and the low-back models. I LOVE the low-back seats, but I highly dislike the high-back seat, because even when wearing a short PFD, the back of the PFD hits against the top of the seat, and it's VERY uncomfortable and anoying. I have a high-back seat that I used once, then I removed and stored it. I own a couple of the low-back seats that I use regularly, and they're great, and VERY comfortable. I would suggest that you ditch the high-back seat, and purchase a low-back seat instead.

I have used the metal version of these chairs for years. This one has a plastic frame. If it is durable (yet to be seen) it will be great as it will reduce the weight as most of mine are flip up to allow access to below. Also the worst problem with the old style was rust, which these won't have an issue with

Comments about High-Back Padded Drain Hole Seat:

We replaced our old NRS seats because they had rusted so much they couldn't be removed from the seat mount without major effort. The new ones are just as comfortable and much lighter. I appreciate that bonus when I'm moving my frame around. The old seat almost doubled the weight of my smallest frame. The new one is hardly noticable!

          Typical outstanding NRS service.

Purchased replace oarsman seat on drift boat that had deteriorated. Drain hole a plus -- previous seat was a tractor seat w/o a drain hole so I was sitting in water all the time. Quick to install -- 15 minutes as it lined up with previous bolt patterns. The seat cost was a bit higher than I wanted but hoping quality is top line. Did a lot of research on-line -- best value when you include shipping costs.

Seat has four threaded holes in bottom. There are no attachment pieces.
You will have to furnish the bolts and an adapter to attach to your frame.

This seat mounts on a seat bar with a flat mounting plate. For NRS frames
you can purchase the seat bar as a additional item. For other brands of
frames you would need a seat mount to match the seat.
This seat works fine for the oarsman, I have rowed with the low back seat
and the high back seat and prefer the high back seat for more back support.

                      Hi Vance,
The seat requires a flat plate mount.
                      It's a 4 hole pattern .... 7 1/2" wide by 7" front to back.
                      NRS supplies the bolts.
I have a tube with a plate welded to it made by NRS.
My seat mount bar is this one ................
                      http://www.nrs.com/product/90030.02/nrs-frame-seat-bar-with-lopros
........... but a raised bar is also available is you want some extra
                      height.
They can be viewed in the 'Frame Parts' section.
If you look at this webpage ..............
                      http://www.nrs.com/frames/Specs.asp#ActionSeatMount
                      .............. scroll down to the picture where 'A' = 7.5" and 'B' = 7"
It looks as if you could clamp their 'Passenger seat mount' to one of your
existing tubes or 'splash out' on a purpose made bar.
Most forklift trucks/lawn tractor seat etc. have a fairly generic hole
pattern. This seat is similar it appears.
                      Good luck

Vance, the seat is great for rowing. You can attach the seat to one of our seat bars or to the Universal Seat Mount, Item # 94015.01, which can attach to any cross bar. The seat comes with the bolts for mounting to any of these options.

You need the cross bar that runs from side to side of your frame. It has
the square plate with the four bolt pattern that matches the seat bolt
pattern. This seat is designed for the rower.

We use the seat for rowing. The holes on the bottom allow you to attach them to whatever. We've had moveable track where you weld the track onto the box and screw the other track onto the seat. This allowed adjustment forward and back for different rowers. Now my husband has attached wood with slots for straps so seat can be attached to the frame on either side of the box while still sitting on top of the box. This allows you to un clip the back to get into the box. Hope this helps!

There are 4 female threaded mounting holes in the bottom of the chair in a
7.5W X 7L pattern. You may need other pieces depending upon how your boat
is designed and where you plan to mount the chair. The chair is nice and
wide (take this into consideration when you pick a mounting location) and
very comfortable on long canoe trips. IMO it is well worth the effort,
added weight and increased center of gravity on your boat. I have two
mounted in a 16 ft. canoe one at the front and one at the back. We
typically paddle 10 to 25 miles in a day (in water with little or no
current). The chair provides plenty of butt and back support and does not
interfere with the movement of paddling.

I see that your cockpit is 16.5" wide, and I'm sure that's to the outside of the rim. The High-Back Seat is 18" wide, so it won't fit. I don't think we can help you, unless one of the Crazy Creek Chairs might squeeze in there - http://www.nrs.com/category/2912/camping/chairs-tables - A web search for "high back kayak seat" brings up several possibilities. You might also contact Swift to see if they know of options.

Sorry, but I don't know if the seat will fit in your kayak. Dimensions
(from the NRS site) are 13"H x 18"W (front of seat) x 14"L. The seat was, I
believe, designed for catarafts and rafts type boats with a steel or
aluminum frame and meant to be bolted via four bolts (included with the
seat) to a flat mount. I suspect that mounting in a kayak, even if it fits,
will be a problem. The bolt hole pattern is 7.5"W x 7"L.
As for your lower back, I can say that the seat is well made with ample
padding, provides good support, and is very comfortable.
                      I hope this helps.

This seat could be mounted to a kayak, but not easily. It would require drilling mounting holes into the hull of your boat. It is also large and heavy which is fine for most rafting situations, but not a kayak. It could be done, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Lindamar, you could probably adapt this somehow. However, take a look at the Cheetah Chair, Item # 81000.01, Crazy Creek Travel Chair, # 71406.01 and Crazy Creek Canoe Chair, # 71405.01 to see if one of those will serve.

I bought this seat to put in a 12' cataraft. Sorry, but I don't know much
about kayak design. I can tell you that the seat is very comfortable and
would probably do wonders for your back if you could find a way to install
it. The bottom is basically flat with some indented areas. It is meant to
be bolt mounted with 4 5/16" bolts in a 7-1/2" X 7" pattern. You can look
at the "Specs" for other dimensional data.
You might also look at this seat from NRS:
                      http://www.nrs.com/product/1227/nrs-angler-swivel-fishing-seat. I have one
of these on my cataraft and it is cheaper, also comfortable, and the back
folds down for storage/hauling. It isn't as sturdy as the other one, but
probably amply sturdy for your needs. It also is meant to be bolted down
but with a smaller bolt pattern (5" X 5"). If you look at the specs you
will note that this seat is slightly larger in width and length than the
high back plastic drain hole seat you are considering.
It sounds to me that finding a way to mount either seat will be the major
issue. I also suspect that both seats might prevent the use of a
                      sprayskirt.
Hope this helps. Feel free to write if you think I might be able to provide
                      anything else.

I don't think this seat would work well at all. It is quite heavy and meant to be mounted on a raft rowing frame. Check out the seats made by Aire that are meant to go in their inflatable kayaks. I recently bought two for my inflatables and they give great support once secured to the kayak. They come with a long strap that can be put under the boat and tightened to hold it in place. I think NRS sells them. Otherwise try Cascade Outfitters.

No it needs to be mounted. Mainly used in driftboats and rafts

Look at Aire's seats for their IK. They have some padded seats that might be adaptable to your kayak. I think this seat might be a problem fastening to a kayak--I can't think of an easy way to do it. The Aire seats have straps and good back support that might solve your problem.

I need to make these seats swivel on my NRS frame. Do you have swivels for the high backs?

Justin, yes we can make this happen. Basically what you will have is a Passenger Seat Mount, Item # 94019.01, without that welded channel on the bottom. You'll bolt your High-Back Seat to the top of it, then bolt an Angler Swivel Plate, Item # 94016.01 to the bottom of it. the Swivel Plate will bolt to any NRS Seat Bar that's been made in about the past four years (that's when we started punching hole patterns for both Drain Hole and Angler seats in the plates). This is a custom job, give us a call, 800.635.5202, to place the order.

The seat comes with the bolts needed to mount it to an NRS seat plate.
