Protect the finish on your car, kayak, canoe, refrigerator or other precious cargo with NRS 1.5" Padded Straps. The pad is sewn onto the strap so it is always right where you need it.
  • The 2" x 5" vinyl pad protects your valuable gear from scrapes and dings.
  • The 1.5" wide polypropylene webbing has a tensile strength of 2,000 pounds, so you can lash in your gear with confidence.
  • We also soak the webbing in our proprietary UV protectant for long life in the sunny outdoors.
  • Two center-mounted stainless-steel springs give our heavy-duty buckle a stronger, more secure grip on the webbing.
  • The length of each NRS tie-down strap is woven right into the webbing, so there's never any guesswork when choosing the right size for the job.
  • A waterproof 1" x 3" tag near the buckle gives you a place to write your name and contact info to prove to your buddy that it's your strap, NOT his.
  • Rafters, kayakers, canoeists and other water folks love these burly cargo straps.
  • Yes, they're the gold standard for boaters, but savvy people have found literally hundreds of other uses for them.
  • You'll want these straps for your boating gear bag, car trunk, truck bed, ATV, camper... everywhere.
  • Ask any boater and they'll tell you, "You can never have too many."

I can't think of when you would not use these when you need a tiedown! They work very well and I have used them for years. About the only mistake I made was having all wide ones and then one of the edges rubbed against something that started to tear it. And yet, it stopped at the point where the fibers were not touching the sharp spot and held as though it was in perfect condition.

The padding that keeps the buckle from scratching car paint etc. is too narrow - it should be at least another half inch wider. As it is, the padding just covers the metal spring loaded buckle - if the load shifts or the angle of strain on the buckle shifts, there's a chance you're going to have the buckle right on unprotected paint, etc. This is an oversight on NRS's part, and should be corrected. Paying extra for this padding should get you adequate protection, not just enough protection....

No worries about these ever breaking. I use a single 15' strap to tie down my board which makes the process quick and easy. I like that they have added UV protection.

Most strap buckles wear out over time and put your kayak at risk of not really being secure. These straps have serious buckles that don't slip and give an increased sense of security. Also, compared to buying straps at other outlets these are a really good deal.

                Service and delivery comments:

I frequently buy a pair when ordering other stuff from NRS.

Yes, Michelle, these straps will work fine for your boards. However, the Buckle Bumpers will not fit on these buckles. Tale a look at the 1" HD Buckle Bumper Straps - http://www.nrs.com/product/60003.02/nrs-1-hd-buckle-bumper-straps -They are plenty strong for the job.

Yes they do protect from scratching, just make sure that when you secure your items with them that you install them so you're pulling the loose end down towards the ground to tighten, otherwise you will have a hard time getting them tight enough.

The pads sit on the underside of the buckle and protect from scratches from that area. The rest of the buckle is exposed.

Because of the way we tie our canoe onto the racks, the straps do not come in contact with the vehicle.  We have never noticed any scratches on the boat that came from the buckle or strap.

In my experience of many years yes they do a great job. You still need to
"catch" them if you throw them over a kayak to buckle up.

The pads keep from scratching the kayak, not the vehicle. They sit between the boat and the buckle.

There's a little bit of material that keeps the buckle from being in direct
contact with anything. The metal on the buckles is smooth anyways, and once
they're cinched down don't really move. I have not had any problems with
                    the buckles scratching anything.
