The Carlisle paddles have a very confortable grip and are versatile for most of my canoeing needs. I have purchased four or five of these in various sizes to have on hand for different size adults and children alike. I have only cracked one of these paddles, but I think someone might have stepped on the blade before a serious push-off from shore snapped it completely. They will scratch over time, but worth the wear and tear at this price. The only nuisance I have found is that certain types of suntan lotion will interact with the black coloring of the plastic turning your hands black if the suntan lotion is still on your hands. I still keep buying these instead of the more expensive pro-grade paddles.

          Comments about Carlisle Economy Paddle:

I run a summer camp for middle school students who have very little concern for other's equipment. After weeks of use, The canoes came out looking like they had been carved with machetes and the Paddles still look new. The kids threw them down cliffs and dragged them on rocks always. I highly recommend these.

            • Carlisle Economy Paddle

              Q:

Will this paddle hold up for whitewater rafting? What's the difference between this economy paddle and the standard poly clad aluminum paddle? I've had my raft out 3 times and lost 3 paddles including an old beat up but usable Werner Bandit. Not gonna waste anymore money than I have to.

                A:

The Standard and Outfitter paddles have a larger diameter shaft and the Outfitter has a tougher blade. They're all tough paddles, but cost indicates tougher yet.

Its made for rafting just a cheaper model. Which may be good because it sounds like you enjoy throwing your paddles away.
