Commonly heard complaints from boaters are "My wetshoes dry slowly" and "My shoes really stink." The problems are related. Neoprene shoes don't "breathe" so moisture escapes slowly unless you work to eliminate it. And bacteria and other microorganisms in the water and from your feet can generate odors in those moist conditions. This video shows how to clean and dry watershoes to head off odor. And if stinky shoes happen, we show how to eliminate it.

    Q:

I wear a women size 8 shoe. Being that these are a men shoe what size should I order?

I wear a 9.5 mens, and bought a 9. A little snug, but it works ok.
I'd probably go with a men's 7, but if some women's 8's are big on you, you may even think about a Men's 6.

Cher, if you're wearing it over bare feet or thin socks, a size 7 should fit fine. If you're wearing heavy neoprene socks or dry suit socks, you'll probably want to go up a size.

    Q:

Though I wear size 10.5 men's in most street shoes, I always buy larger (11.5 - 12.5 depending) for hiking, etc. I purchased the size 12 in Kicker Remix Wetshoe and they fit well. What do you recommend in this shoe?

      A:

I've bought the Felt-soled shoes for years and have always gone a 1/2 size down. I wear 9.5-10 is street shoes, but a 9 in the Felt-soles. The last pair I bought though were a bit snug. Maybe they style changed a bit and that shrunk the fit? They still do ok, just had to wear them some to get used to the smaller size.
I W/W kayak, mostly in a Playboat, so to fit better in the boat I take a razor blade and shave the corner edges of the felt soles down on the outer heel and the outside of the toebox.
FYI....It takes a couple uses to break the soles in for their best traction on slippery surfaces. Once there though, they are the best.
Due to their thickness they also are great for protecting feet when walking on coarse gravel or other sharp, uneven surfaces.

These shoes fit well to begin with and they are stretchy.  Assuming you will be using these in colder water, will you also wear poly pro liner socks or thin urethane socks?  You may want to consider the extra thickness.  However, with the extra size you ordered, you should be ok.  BTW I use my felt sole kickers for scuba diving on Bonaire.  They are great on slick rocks, not so good on boat decks.

    Q:

I need a wetshoe/dive bootie for metal detecting in the shallow water for six- eight hours.

My main concern is balance (slippery rocks ) and protection from sharp coral. Does this wet shoe provide sufficient support and are the sides high enough to protect the ankles from being cut/ beach sand getting in. I often have to trudge through miles of dry sand to get to the right location.

I wear size 13 shoes (long narrow foot). As a result of treatment for staff infection, I am bothered by swelling (if I do not get the boots on soon after waking. Normally, I would order a size 14 as I have been wearing flip flops size 13 without support. Would size 15 be a better choice?

Is this the right product for my needs (I am 6ft 2inch and overweight. Or is there a better product you would recommend for my needs.

      A:

The shoe's felt sole gives excellent traction on slick rocks but is cut below the ankle so it won't offer protection in that area. For ankle protection and to keep sand out side zip entry models like the Paddle Wetshoe and ATB would be good options. With the swelling you experience it sounds like going up a size would be wise.

They're actually pretty light until you get them wet. Then they get heavy.
The felt soles retain a lot of water and the body of the shoe is neoprene.

All I can say is I wear these all day on the river and never concerned about weight. These don't "hold" water to make them feel heavy at all.

      A:

If you're wearing it over bare feet, the size 6 should work. If you will wear it with a wetsock or drysuit sock, you'll want to size up to a 7.

I have tried eight water shoes trying to find a shoe that was comfortable, rarely allowed rocks and gravel in, and solved my ongoing problem of busting my butt slipping on slick rocks when wading in a river. This is the first shoe that does it all.

I haven't had it long enough to speak to it's durability. The felt sole washes easily with a blast from a water hose to resolve invasive species concerns.
