    Q:

I am debating between the hydroskin glove vs. the rapid glove. Which would be better for a cool weather canoe trip in late September? I like the plush liner in the hydroskin, but I like the thicker neoprene (.5 vs. 1.5mm) in the rapid glove.

I don't have the hydro skin gloves, but I do
Have a pair of sealskins. I prefer my rapids gloves over the sealskins as they are warm, flexible and comfortable. I have let other use them and they have a hard time giving them back.

I have the rapid glove. It works well. However I don't have much to compare it to. They are comfortable. The neoprene doesn't completely block out the cold. But I have only used them during fall and spring float trips in Colorado.. If you paddle more I'm sure they'd be warmer. Good glove though. Hope this helps

I live in northern PA and use the Rapid glove to kayak from mid spring thru
mid fall. As long as the water isn't too cold this glove is good. It's
not waterproof, so if your hands go in the water they will be wet, but
probably warm enough. I like the Rogue glove for a little colder water
before changing to full on winter gloves. I've never used the hydroskin
gloves so I can't give you a comparison. Enjoy.

      A:

The hydroskin is better for cold weather as it is pretty much waterproof, I never get cold in it, neoprene is cumfy and warm, but if the weather/water is COLD then you stay wet and eventually your extremities get colder.. Does that make sense, if not, to confirm my opinion, I gave away my neoprene gloves and kept the hydroskin!! Regards, Rich

Warm and comfortable fitting glove. The grip is awesome and the fingers fit great without any pinching at the ends. The seams started to blow out after just a couple of months of weekend use tho. Great gloves if they'd last a bit longer than 2 months.

        Comments about NRS Rapid Gloves:

I wanted a glove to wear during early and late season rafting trips when the water is a little colder than during the summer months. This glove keeps your hands warm without sacrificing dexterity. The coating on the palm and fingers make gripping an oar perfect.

        Comments about NRS Rapid Gloves:

These kept my fingers from getting blisters and were great for grip on the paddle. I often ended up wearing them for sun protection in the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River. Cons - they were not waterproof and I often had to take them off to dry off my fingers and hands -- since the weather in the canyon is very hard on your hands, having them stay wet did not help.

          Comments about NRS Rapid Gloves:

This is my second pair. The first pair lasted 3 years and I wore holes in them. I use these gloves for long distance kayak training and racing. If I'm going shorter distances (say, less than 2 or 3 miles), I use different gloves. The Rapid gloves do a good job in preventing blisters. The grip is also good. My only complaint is that one location is not well enough protected. These gloves could do a better job protecting the inside of my thumbs up close to the primary joint at the hand. This location gets a lot of wear during kayak paddling and NRS should run the heavy material (that is mostly reserved for the palms) all they way around the thumb (but not at the outer thumb knuckle to allow flexing). I apply athletic tape at this location on my thumb before putting on the gloves. The first pair I bought were size M and they were somewhat tight, but it was comfortable enough because they flex well. When I purchased the second, I used the size chart, measured my hands and bought size L. They feel a tad big, but this may be because I'm used to the M's. The first time I wore the L's, I won a 20 mile race. Overall the gloves are quite good.
