The NRS HydroLock Grommeted Dry Bag is designed especially for kayakers. The HydroLock closure is totally waterproof, while the "envelope" shape and smooth surface makes it a snap to stow.

  • A roll-down StormStrip™ top with quick-release buckle doubles as a carrying handle.
  • Two corner grommets plus a D-ring on the buckle make this bag simple to secure to your boat.
  • 70-denier urethane-coated nylon keeps the weight of this bag to a minimum, and the rugged material slides easily in and out of fiberglass and polyethylene kayaks.
  • The durable clear urethane window ensures you'll quickly and easily find items in the bag.

I bought this bag to keep my camera in while kayaking. I looked at several different dry bags, some of which are made specifically for camera and allow you to take photos through the bag. My camera has a fairly good sized zoom on the lens, so I didn't thing any of those would work for me and just decided to get a small dry bag. I went on a multi-day paddling trip to the Channel Islands recently and because we were exploring lots of sea caves we used sit-on-top ocean kayaks, so I appreciated the little plastic loop next to the buckle and the two large grommets that let me use a carabiner to clip the bag to a line on the boat. Most of day one the bag with the camera in it sat in the bottom of the boat in a puddle of water. I used the camera several times, and did notice a very small amount of condensation inside the bag, but it seems most likely that it was there because my hands were wet while handling the camera. There were definitely no leaks! This bag was plenty roomy for my camera, cell, phone, keys, ID and a few other small items, but not too big to clip to my pfd while paddling to get it up out of the puddles in the kayak. I never tried taking photos through the clear window in the bag, but next trip I will. Overall, this bag performed wonderfully!

Not a Durable Dry Bag for Kayaking

This bag is not durable due to the see-thru window material. The thin material is easily punctured by contents or surroundings when squeezing it into the rear area of a whitewater kayak.

Comments about NRS HydroLock Grommeted Dry Bag:

I love the double seal. Like that is has the grommet holes for tying it down. It also has a loop near the closure for tying it down. I like this size because it is small enough to fit anywhere on my kayak and large enough to carry my lunch.

When I bought a second boat, the Eddyline Samba, it didn't have a day hatch. Wanted a place to put sun glasses and hat when doing solo rescue practices. This NRS Dry Bag fit the bill. Put stuff in there, place under front bungees. Works well -- stuff stays dry.

How are the dimensions taken? The small says 8.5" x 11". Is this closed? Or is the 11" height BEFORE it is rolled closed?

                    A:

14.5" Tall x 9.75" Wide when flat not sealed without anything in it. When
you fill it up the dimensions reduce in length and width. At Max capacity
dimensions become roughly 8.5" x 11" depending on what you put in it. If
you were to fill it with water, maximum amount and seal it, then you get
                    8.5"x11".

Mark, the width varies with the bag - XS = 4.5", S = 5", M = 6". The clear strip runs from the bottom of the bag up to the closure strip.

Yes. It has kept my stuff dry so far. I have used it on maybe six whitewater trips so far. I only had one swim and resulting full submersion of the bag. It is a lot dryer than the well used bag it replaced. I am satisfied with its performance.

Should be, with Ziploc and roll down sealing. I carry my phone and
(electronic) keys in it, leaving some air in so it floats of dropped. I
have not pressure tested it but it gets plenty splashed and rained on. No

But you must make sure the ziploc tpye zipper seal at the top is closed.
Just folding it down and clipping it will not be waterproof.
                    You must seal the zipper.

We have been having trouble getting the bag to seal properly, so it does
not keep moisture out very effectively. If you can manage to seal the top
properly, it keeps water out great, but most of the time we cannot get it
to do so, and are not very pleased with the bag.
