The RiverMaps Guide to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon is a must-have guidebook for your trip down the Grand. It's durable and waterproof with USGS topo maps and excellent descriptions of river features.
  • This 5th Edition book covers the entire river, from the Lees Ferry launch site to the South Cove take out on Lake Mead.
  • Spiral-bound format with full-color topographical maps on the right side and complete text descriptions on the facing page.
  • The new mapping software used in this edition allows relief shading of the topo maps, giving you a much better perspective of the terrain.
  • Excellent mile-by-mile information on rapids, campgrounds, geological features, historical sites and reference points.
  • The topo maps are the same scale as the original USGS maps. The contour lines and accurate river shape really help you keep track of where you are.
  • The high-quality waterproof paper really stands up to the soaking it's going to get!
  • The book lists numerous side hikes and interesting features away from the river.
  • All photos in this edition are in full color.
  • Also includes info pages on frequently asked questions about boating the river, Grand Canyon geology, archeology, resource protection and plants found in the Canyon.

Comments about RiverMaps Colorado River in the Grand Canyon 5th Ed. Guide Book:

Great guide for paddling the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Mile-by-mile descriptions of sites, rapids, camps, etc.

Must be difficult to keep up-to-date with a lot of the beach erosion and overgrown campsites, but they do a good job.

Comments about RiverMaps Colorado River in the Grand Canyon 5th Ed. Guide Book:

I was recommended to buy the 4th edition by the person who trained me to be a boatman for my first trip down the GC in April 2013, and found it very helpful in setting up for each rapid whether scouted or not. Loved how the maps were oriented to read facing down river. Also, I found it very informative for its history, geology and other attractions that could easily have been missed w/o this guide.

I have now purchaesed the 5th edition for our upcoming May 2015 GC trip and have already found it very helpful w/ the addition of the Geographical Index when doing quick references to spots along the river. Also, the colored pictured are much easier to see.

The 5th edition will be strapped on deck while going down river and the 4th edition will be in my dry pack as a back up, and to refer to my 2013 notes written on the waterproof pages.

Each edition will end up on my coffee table or in my library as a conversation piece and memory keeper from the good times had by our trip members...
