Our most popular size, the NRS 6" Oar Mount comes stock on many of our raft and cataraft frames. Now in high-tech hot-forged aluminum for a stronger, lighter, sleeker mount.
  • Forging aligns the crystalline structure of the aluminum, creating a stronger oar mount.
  • This increased strength has allowed us to streamline the design, reducing the 6-inch Oar Mount's weight by 25% over the older model.
  • A tough nylon bushing allows the oarlock shank to rotate friction free, and the bushing is easily replaceable, Item # 91043.01.
  • You can easily adjust the oar mount's height by rotating it on the side rail.
  • Molded ridges on the gripping surface increase holding power on our 1 5/8"OD frame pipe.
  • Accepts 5/8" diameter oarlocks and pins.
  • A pair of oar mounts includes two U-bolts with nylon lock nuts and four washers.
  • Singles do not come with hardware. If you don't already have hardware, you'll need an NRS Frame U-bolt to attach the oar mount to an NRS frame.
Dimensions: 6" Tall
Weight: Single mount with hardware is 1.5 lbs.
Material: Hot-forged 6061-T6 aluminum alloy
Components:
  • 1 - Pair of 6" Oar Mounts
  • 2 - U-bolts with nuts and washers
Notes:
  • Single does not include hardware

    Q:

    How do you choose between a 6" and 8" oar mount? I have a 13'6 L, 6'3" W Maravia with 8.5' Oars.

      A:

Oar mount height is largely influenced by how high you are sitting in the boat. Sitting at about side rail height, most folks find the 6" mounts work fine. If you're sitting up on an elevated cooler or dry box, the 8" or even the 10" may be better. I sit on our Flip Seat Mount, Item # 92019.02, and use the 10" mounts.

My frame has a seat bar and the 6" are great. If I sat on a cooler/drybox
they would have to be taller.

      A:

It depends on your seat height more than anything else, although shorter
oars also require a steeper angle to enter the water, which in turn puts
the handle of the oar that much higher than the lock.
If your seat sits directly on the frame, a 6" stand might work, although it
sounds like your oars are a little shorter than what I've used, so unless
you are a small person you might want the 8". If you are sitting on a
cooler or dry box, or have an elevated seat of any type, you will
definitely want the 8", or maybe even 10".
Unfortunately it usually involves a lot of trial and error to find a
combination that feels right. Try to keep the handles below your armpits
when the blade is in flat water or you risk injury.
      Good luck.

After installing the 6" oar mounts it measures 6" from the bottom of the
round tube it is attached to the top of the tower (not the oar lock)

  • NRS Frame 6" Oar Mount

    Q:

From the images, it appears that the base of the new forged 6" oar mount may be a little less wide than the older style. Is that correct? If so, what is the maximum width near the base? I have a narrow spot where I need to attach it to the frame, and the old style mount (which I have) is just a little too wide.

Comments about NRS Frame 6" Oar Mount:

Big improvement on the bulkier older towers. They're lighter--enough said. I don't think they sacrificed any of the strength for the new design. Can't beat the price either.
