You don't have to know rocket science to row a boat, but it helps to have gear made by a company who does. Cataract shafts are made with the same filament wound glass/carbon/epoxy composite technology used by the aerospace industry. These oars perform like no others, translating muscle energy into stroke power more effectively than other oars, giving you the ultimate in oar responsiveness.

Q:Will the cataract oar blade protector fit a 5" blade ? If not do you have a blade protector that will? Thanks, I shall look forward to your reply. LonniekAsked on 3/26/2013 by lonnie from Oregon
A:Lonnie, it's made to fit snug over a 6-1/4" wide so you'd have to do some surgery on it to make it fit. Sawyer makes one to fit their 5.5" wide blades. We can special order, $13.99 each. Call 800.635.5202 if you'd like to order.Answered on 3/26/2013 by Clyde
A:As an owner of 6, 6"-blade cataract oars, all with protectors, I don't
believe the protectors would stay on a 5" blade. They are extremely tight
and difficult to get on a 6" blade, but they have come off in certain
situations. Even if they "seemed" to fit on the 5" blade, the plastic isn't
very flexible and the shape of the curve wouldn't adjust to the smaller
blade, so I think water would get under them and break the friction "seal"
that keeps them on. Sorry, hope this helps.Answered on 3/26/2013 by Anonymous

- Fit perfectly

Comments about Cataract Oar Blade Protector:
Glued them on my new Cataract oar blades and they fit perfect without any extra bulk. Probably not totally necessary, but I'm thinking will double the life of the oar tips, which get the brunt of the abuse in rivers.
