            Q:

why would a person need a strap slide- buckles work well, just not sure what the application would be with these?

These are to secure the loose end of a strap that is to long for the application you are using it for. In other words the portion of the strap you have drawn through the cam which is now just unused slack. You use the slide to secure the slack against the taught portion of the strap.

These are used when you need to place a lock or slider of whatever sort and you don't have to sew the end of the web. To use these simply go through the first slot and over the middle and back into the next slot, Then your loop is open to place the slider or lock on the web, then simply retrace the web back through in reverse order, then double the tail back into the last loop and you have a secure strap. And if the strap gets cut you can undue the strap slide. Or you can spend the extra cash and buy pre sewn straps whatever works. As far as application they are unlimited, these allow you to buy web in bulk and make straps whatever length you want.

They are typically used for rigging rafts for hauling gear. Most often you see them used to create a "cradle" using NRS straps to keep coolers and dry boxes off the floor of your raft. They would not be very useful if you are just looking to tie boats to a roof.

I use them when I have long straps and want to do something with the extra
tail. It works better than tying it off or having it flap.

Down in the More Information section on the page are instructions for the application we mainly market them for, that is slinging a cooler or dry box, with the tail ends of the strap cinching the unit in place. Note that on several of our frames we supply straps and strap slides for that very purpose.

            Q:

Whats the overall size of these? It's for a custom application. I know that they are for 1" straps, can I assume overall it's 1.5" or are they 1.25"?

Yes, this slides are for the standard 1” straps. They can be used for many different things, but I use them mostly tie off the end of the straps after I tied something down to keep the excess strap from getting caught in things.
