How To: Find and Fix Inflatable Boat Valve Leaks (3:23)

Finding and fixing leaks in the valves on your inflatable raft, cataraft or inflatable kayak (IK) is an important skill for boaters. Here NRS repair guru Josh Gile demonstrates the steps with a Leafield C-7 inflate/deflate valve. You'll use basically the same steps with other types -- Leafield B-7, Halkey-Roberts, Summit and military valves.

Aaron, the outer portion of the Summit 2 valve will not screw into the inner portion of the Summit 1. This video explains how to replace the inner portion - http://www.nrs.com/learn/how-to-replace-a-raft-valve.asp - Give us a call, 800.635.5202, if you have questions.

I use the summit 1 valve for my Water Skeeter Pontoon Boat and the hole in the tube is  1 3/4".  So I would recommend that the hole be 1 3/4".  Any larger size I feel the valve would not seal.  Hope this helps.

      A:

I'm not sure. I have a8 year old Aires Tom Cat that used the older summit valve and the older replacement valves were not available. I did use the newer style and just unscrewed the old valves and put the news ones in. They use a different air chuck, so I replaced all the valves with the newer ones (and bought some extras) and just changed the adapter at the end of the pump. Hope this helps.

Annie, I think so, but AIRE has particular requirements on valves, because of the need to cinch that inner bladder in with the outer tube material in getting a good air seal. Please check with them, 800-247-3432. They're great folks to chat with.

Comments about Summit 1 Valve for AIRE Tributary:

These valves are super easy to use and very inexpensive. The ones that were on my boat just had to be replaced from several years of use. Not bad considering a valve for under 10 bucks works well for YEARS.
