The NRS Mystery Sea Hood with Bill performs as advertised. My ears' sensitivity to wind and cold had sometimes limited my paddling to warm weather, or required bulkier, cumbersome balaclavas or hats. But the lightweight, comfortable Sea Hood takes care of the problem with ease. It has enough flexibility that my shoulder-length hair will fit easily underneath it, yet snug enough to keep out even a steady wind on the water. As a recreational kayaker I have not yet learned to roll, so I haven't tested the Sea Hood for warmth in the water. I have paddled in rain and wind-driven spray, and the hood kept my head (and especially my ears!) warm, dry, and comfortable so that I can now pursue the sport I love longer, and in more inclement weather than before. Kudos to NRS for this fine product!

Comments about NRS Mystery Sea Hood with Bill - Closeout:

The hood is great. I do wish it covered the neck a little more but it is great overall.
Fits nicely, comfortable surface. Can easily get too warm, so you may want an alternate if you aren't in very cold situations.
Lastly - the strap can irritate under my chin a bit. I've dug out some body glide from when I used to run marathon distance - we'll see if that helps.

Comments about NRS Mystery Sea Hood with Bill - Closeout:

Have now used this cap a few times in cold (low 30s) weather and really like it. With air temps in the mid 30s, been almost too warm to wear when paddling hard, but perhaps as the water gets wilder I'll change my mind about that. It's stretchy enough that I can also wear a polypropylene skull cap under it, but I'm afraid that if it's cold enough for that, the freshwater in my area may be frozen over and I won't need it. I like the little bill in the front as it gives a modicum of shading my eyes from the sun. It flips up out of the way for gray days. Nice design and very comfortable. Don't yet know about durability...too early to say.

I recently purchased this item specifically, for when weather conditions become a little to raw, wet, windy or cold when kayaking in the colder months. Since receiving it, I have used it each time that I have ventured out, and have thoroughly enjoyed the
warmth & protection of which I had presumed it would deliver whilst out on the water. I am very happy with this purchase and product thus far.

If you just ski gently without overheating. Else: Get it much larger than what you use and wear wool or fleece under it. Of course in driving freezing rain it would be useful.

I think it would be a real warm option to just wearing some type of cap especially in bitter cold weather.  I am planning on using it underneath a wool cap or under a helmet for skiing or winter rowing/kayaking.  It will keep you warm.

I used the sea hood on a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon in October It was very helpful going through rapids, and swimming through the cold rapids.  I would think it would be a good hat to have handy for

An interesting idea.  I live in Montana so I ski a lot. I also kayak on rivers and ocean.  The negative of the seahood as ski hat idea is that it is not breathable.  In 30-60 minutes you will have a damp scalp.  As soon as you slow down or stop you will likely get cold.  Stick with a pile beanie and then pull up a gortex or even a wind shirt hood if the wind is fierce!Save the neoprene seahood for the cold and damp river and ocean environments.

I use this hood routinely in winter with sports glasses and a neckstrap. I don't find this to be uncomfortable, but the hood is not stretched tight around my face and head. I find the hood to be warmer than I usually need without it having to be tight like a wetsuit hood. I don't wear it unless the air temperatures are below 55°F and even then, I sometimes remove it if I'm training hard and get overheated.

I wear this hood with my wireframe glasses. It keeps my head and ears warm.. It is comfortable and hasn't damaged my glasses. I am a sea kayaker. I don't roll wearing the hood, so can't give you feedback on that.
NRS is good about returns. Try it and if it doesn't work out, return it.

Yes, Jmarden, this is my preferred neoprene cap when I kayak and surf-kayak.. I wear glasses with a strap, and I wear a helmet over the cap. I do not have any difficulties with comfort.
Sometimes when the arms of glasses are squeezed, I go to my eye glass store, and they mold them closer to my head..
          Good luck,

I just tried my hood on again. The hood's not tight, but slight pressure
