How To: Fit an Adjustable Bungee Sprayskirt (1:07)

The adjustable bungee sprayskirt can be a great choice for kayakers paddling touring and recreational kayaks. They tend to be less expensive and can fit a range of cockpit sizes. This video gives tips on how fit an adjustable bungee sprayskirt for a snug fit, while still allowing the skirt to be removed safely in a wet exit.

    Q:

Hi I already asked a question about two kayaks that I have that if the nrs deluxe cockpit cover will fit on them. I was asked to give the dimensions of the two cockpits and they are.....the pelican ultimate 100se dimensions are 48.5" length and 23" width.....the perception sport swiftwater 10.5 are 38" length and the widest width is 21". Thanks

From the NRS sizing chart, the Pelican will not fit any of the covers, but the Perception should be fine with the Small.

Sorry I can't help. I don't remember the dimensions of my kayak cockpit. I will say the cover is well made and fits perfectly. Good product.

Thanks, Scott, for the extra info. The Small should fit your Perception. The width of the Pelican is the wild card. Since the length is near the top of the range for the Medium, that width may cause a bad fit. I suggest you order both the Medium and Large and keep the one that fits best. My Old Town cockpit is 56"x23" at its widest and it fits. It's snug but
      stays on nicely.

There are different sizes.. the small fits: 36"-42" length and 19" -
      22" width the medium fits 43" - 50" length and 19" -
22" width nothing they have goes as high as 23" width all sizes have
      19" - 22" width listed. I bought a medium one for our perception 9'6"
Kayak and it fits.. I thought that was a 23" width.. Maybe it depends on
exactly how you measure. That's about the best I can do.

Will the Large size fit the newer style Equninox 10.4 (sold at Costco)? Cockpit coaming measures 50" x 24" in a rounded rectangle shapre. Thanks

Bill, the cover is shaped to fit the more conventional "rounded-oval" cockpit rim, so I'm not sure if it will fit your "rounded-rectangle" shape. But, it's worth a try. Remember, returns/exchanges are easy and free,

      Bill:
My cockpit (Pungo 120) is 57x22 and I needed the L size of the NRS Deluxe model. I see that the next size down in that model is for cockpits up to 50x22 - so 50x24 may not work. It's nice to have a bit of slack - mine is quite hard to get on and off because I'm at its limit. I didn't review the other 4 NRS offerings. Good luck!

It will easily fit those widths but it depends on the length because the
longer the cockpit it will stretch it out and you will lose width. Example
my kayak cockpit is 22" wide but the length is 52". Stretching that far out
I lost the width and it didn't work for me. My guess if your kayak cockpit
isn't over about 44" long it should work for you.

      A:

Probably. It depends somewhat on the length of your cockpit. If the length is right at the upper recommended maximum length, it might be a problem. If not, you're probably okay. Give it a try; we have a great returns policy if you're dissatisfied with the fit.

I bought this cover and my cockpit was 22 " and something but I think I
could have squeezed another inch out of it no problem, I bought a new boat
and it went with the old, so I can't check for sure. I was very happy with
the cover, hope this helps a little ................

I store my kayak outside, so before getting the cover every time I used the kayak spiders and other bugs would crawl on my legs while paddling. Now I keep the cover on, and bugs and leaves stay out of the cockpit.
I also use it when I carry the kayak on top of the car. They say it saves gas money which makes sense but I haven't used in long enough trips to corroborate it

It's great as a travel or storage skirt to keep large amounts of water and debris out of the cockpit. A couple of complaints, the stitching on one of the tabs has already started to come unravelled, and it isn't waterproof. The band is a nice neoprene stretch band, but the cover material is a thin nylon. I hoping for something a little heavier for longer term storage. Large cover fits the Wilderness Pungo 120 cockpit nicely.

My kayak has a large cockpit and unusual dimensions. Most retailers suggested a custom-made cover as the only solution. The NRS cover fits well and solves the problem of nesting birds when the kayak is in storage. Shipping was prompt with no problems.
