Replacing a drysuit zipper is not DIY, and it's a very expensive repair. Preventative care, such as like regularly cleaning and lubricating drysuit zipper teeth, will help preserve zipper health. Also, using good techniques to roll and fold the drysuit for transportation to and from the water will help prevent fatal damage. In this instructional video, NRS Repairs guru Josh Gile goes over all the tips for ensuring that the zipper will last the life of your drysuit.

That drysuit has it all...including the Gore-tex booties. My first drysuit had ankle gaskets and the drysuit worked fine, but ankle gaskets make a drysuit more difficult to take off...and the main problem...cold wet feet in my neoprene booties especially in colder weather paddling. That's a pricey drysuit, but it's the best one out there and I'd buy it again.

These are fully integrated (a stitched-in part of the suit) socks. I wear scuba or surf booties depending on conditions, but recommend you always wear some sort of shoe to protect the Gortex from tears, punctures or abrasion which will reduce their life expectancy and potential water intrusion. Since they are thin they will fit snuggly inside your shoe, but may require a half size larger shoe if yours are already tight fitting.

    Q:

I am going to get a Meridian Dry Suit with Gore Tex socks. I know I will need to get new water shoes because my current ones won't fit over the gore-tex sock. Two questions. Is there a specific formula for choosing a size (such as one size larger than normal)? And what type of footwear do people recommend with this suit? I have always used an over the ankle, Desperado shoe. But I was wondering if a lower shoe would be better. Thanks

I currently use the old style Desperado Wetshoes when I need the sole protection. All my boats have a lower deck and I need a minimalist type bootie. Whatever you choose will need to have a bit of wiggle room for the additional fabric especially if you're wearing beefy inner socks for colder weather paddlling. The ankle high booties work fine with the Goretex booties and Velcro closure....Great drysuit!

I wear a pair of medium weight hiking socks inside my dry suit booty's and a pair of 5.10 Water Tennies, a half size larger than my normal shoe size, over the dry suit gore-tex booty's. I like them pretty snug but not toe curling tight. They are the best shoe out there now in my opinion, and stick like glue, much like a climbing shoe. Whatever you use, take care of your shoes and wash them out to make sure there is no sand left inside after each trip. The DS booty's are usually the first place to start leaking and the sand inside a shoe will wear the gore-tex booty's out quick.

I'm a size 10.5 shoe and I got size 12 booties to fit over the dry suit. They fit beautifully! Definitely go a size or size and a half big. It's great for winter paddling as it gives some room for wool socks.

I've always gone 1-2 sizes up for shoes I wear with my drysuit so I can
wear neoprene socks and water shoes over the goretex socks. The goretex
socks definitely take more of a beating than the rest of the suit and,
while Kokatat will replace them, it isn't cheap. Make sure to take care of
      them!

      Hi Chris,
I have used the Kokatat Meridian extensively for 4 years now...overskirt, relief zipper, goretex booties...definitely a top of the line drysuit. I'm about 5'10" 165lb sz 10 boots and squeeze into a medium...it fits great, but a tight squeeze to get my head in although it's sized to 6 feet. I would recommend finding a shop you could try on the XL. Once you have an idea how you fit in the standard size, you might consider calling Kokatat about custom sizing...for a longer leg cut, proper placement for the relief zipper, best bootie sizing. I don't think a custom suit costs much more and when you're spending that kind of money on a drysuit, a custom fit would be worth the cost. If you love to paddle, a quality proper fitting drysuit will get you out on those cold weather days.
      Good luck,
      Jim

Clyde couldn't give me a definate answer on Medium or Large without my measurments so here they are. Chest 40", Waist 36", Hips 40", inseam 32", Sleeve 34", height 5'8", 165 lbs. I've read you should measure wearing some fleece or what you would wear under the drysuit and these measurements are to the skin instead. Another reason I'm thinking I should go with a large.

Most of your measurements are right in the Medium. The ones that aren't are in the slimmer area of the suit. I do have a concern that you'll find the Large too tall. If possible, see if one of our dealers is near you - http://www.nrsweb.com/services/dealerlocator.asp?tn=281 - If not, go for the Large, or if you can afford it order both. We have a great free returns process.

Without your measurements it's hard to say. However, it's better to have a drysuit a bit too large than a bit too small. Once you evacuate out the excess air and put on your life jacket on, some extra material doesn't create a problem.

That does sound right. The Kokatat sizing guide is off a bit. The sizing guide put me into a Large. But after trying on the Large it was too tight around the chest so I opted for an XL and that is perfect. And with layering behind the drysuit, I'd recommend going with the larger size.

Assuming your measurements are uniformly split between M/L, I would
definitely go with a L. Not only is it the measurements, but it is also the
ease of getting into/out of the drysuit. You can also have Kokatat custom
make you one, half medium, half large.

Sorry. Just cleaning up my e-mails. If you're still on the fence, I'm about 5'10" 165lb and have a medium...fits great. If I was an inch taller, I'd go with a large due to length. That being said, I'd rather squeeze into a dry suit and have it fit right...well proportioned...than be easy to get on and too baggy. If you're spending the $$ on a Kokatat, I think you can get a custom fit for just a bit more $. Might be worth contacting them direct. Good Luck and happy paddling!

I have a 48 chest and a 38 waist. The XL is fine in the chest a bit tight at the waist, and the legs are baggy, but that's OK. I would definitely go with the XL as it will fit your chest and waist perfectly, and baggy pants shouldn't be a problem in a dry suit.

I would go with the XL. I am 6'-1" with a 34" waist, 34" inseam and 44" chest; it fits me just right. You will have some type of thermal layer under it and in my opinion it is better loose than tight. I tried a large on first and it was too restrictive and my range of motion was not good. Best bet would be to try one on first as it is a pretty big investment, but one i am happy i made.

Comments about Kokatat Men's Gore-Tex Meridian Drysuit with Relief Zipper-GMER:

Used in Maine for kayaking in 47-50F water. Protected against the cold as advertised (note - also needs insulating undergarments), the relief zipper worked perfectly. Needed to expand the neck seal to help alleviate the tight neck feeling (just followed the instructions on NRS website and in use I ended up forgetting about the neck seal). Bottom line - this suit just worked well with no surprises.

      Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and the suit arrived in perfect condition.

If you're serious about cold weather kayaking, there isn't a better suit you can buy. Its completely waterproof and because its gore-tex it stays that way. It also stands up extremely well to abuse.

My old drysuit was damp inside, and I would get cold during breaks. With dry layers under the GMER, I actually warm up during breaks.
