    Q:

    I lost my keys!
Are replacement keys available and is there an lock key ID printed/stamped on the cores?

      A:

Yes there is a key code stamped on the lock cores. I'm not sure if Yakima
will be able to just send spare keys for your existing lock cores you may
have to buy a new key/core set. The only way to know for sure is to give
      them a call

Yes, and yes. and you can send it directly to the Yakima web site and
they will send you the replacement key (for a small fee, of course)

    Q:

Never had an issue with the Yakima SKS Lock Cores, but for some reason I can't get the BowDown kayak rack pieces to lock onto the roof rack. The key fits and turns fine, but when it's in locked position, I can't pull the key out. Any thoughts?

      A:

I've had what sounds like the same issue with my bowdown racks; for me,
the cylinder rotates in the rack base, causing the plunger on the lock
to go out of position, the key turns, but it will not withdraw from its
slot, and the rack is not locked. The cylinder then needs to be rotated
back into position with a screwdirver.
If you are a new Bowdown owner, and have a chance to return them,
consider doing so. Then go buy the Thule model of the same rack. Will
fit Yakima crossbars and are much quieter when mounted and not in use
(which is about 99 percent of the time....) I like Yakima overall, but
this is not their best work.

      A:

Our locks are for the Yakima Control Tower, not the accessories like
BowDown. I assume the lock core is still under a load for some reason when
you are trying to lock it; maybe it is too tight on the bar? I suggest you
try Yakima's customer support; they seem pretty responsive.

You may just need to exchange the lock cores. Please give Yakima customer service a call - 888-925-4621.- to see if they have suggestions for a fix.

Comments about Yakima SKS Lock Cores:

I didn't think I'd really need these for security but was advised to get them just in case (insurance on the much more expensive rack). They were pretty easy to install, but it took a few seconds to understand how they needed to be oriented (that's why I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 wish it could be a 4.5). Once on I realized a great additional benefit not advertised. My latches are a bit stiff and are close to "popping" open. With the locks installed the latches can't open aand I feel much safer and more secure driving with a full load of yaks on the rack.

                  Service and delivery comments:

Excellent service/delivery and communication by NRS, as usual.

Installed without a problem on older rack system that I moved to my new Forester. Easy to use and add a feeling of security when traveling since I leave the rack on the car and change what's attached depending what I'm carrying.

Delivery was prompt and arrived in perfect condition.
